Coming off the steam of this 2014 recruiting class, it will be tempting for some of Volnation to build up ridiculous expectations for the 2014 season. In fact, we've already seen a "we're gonna beat Oklahoma" thread.

Butch and staff have proven they can coach/win (historically), and now they have shown they can recruit. Accept that this year we will be breaking in new O and D lines, a new QB (Ferg), and more skill players and give them time to build this program back up. 6-6 this year and then in 2015 we make the leap.

7-5 in my mind. A top 5 class should be worth 1 more win.

7-5 is the ceiling in my mind. These are mostly true freshmen we are talking about. To miss a bowl would be a disappointment but I wouldn't jump off a bridge.

I see wins over Utah St., Ark. St, Florida, Chattanooga, UK, Mizzou, and Vandy. If we can go on the road and beat Ole Miss 8 is possible. I don't see 7-5 as a reach at all. The home crowd will be huge against UF and Mizzou. We are going to struggle on the road IMO due to youth.

For me, I am saying 6-6 with a trip to a bowl. Any more than 6 wins is a bonus. Next year though, I would say any less than 8 wins will be a disappointment.

I see this team being on a very similar arc to Ole Miss when Freeze took over. He's entering his 3rd year. His first year there I think he went 7-5 with a bowl win ( you could argue that last year we were close to the same) Highly touted 2013 class that performs well but is still young so they win 8 games winning a game that they shouldn't have and beating a big 12 team in Texas ( maybe we shock Oklahoma next year) and then another solid class that should help them next year. I think Butch is a better coach than Freeze so maybe that might accelerate the progress but I think 7-5 is a realistic goal for next year with an 8 win ceiling

The only "gimme" games on the schedule are Kentucky, Chattanooga and Ark St. Utah St is a good team, and not an automatic W. Vandy is probably a win without Franklin but that's no guarantee considering they've won two in a row. IF we win all those that's 5. We will not be preseason favorites in any other game on the schedule, although I hope we win at least 1-2 of those.

I think we have real potential for a 9 win season. I think we notice the departure of our O/D lines but personally, I think it will be much less of a setback than some may think. Especially with this tremendous influx of talent (even though it is young talent). I see us beating Utah St, Ark St, Chatt, Kentucky, and even Vandy as givens. That's 5 right there. I think we beat S. Carolina, Georgia, Florida (this one is gonna be good, at home) and personally, I think Ole Miss is gonna be too hot/cold this year and I can see us beating them away they just strike me as that type of team. In terms of Mizzou I'm actually pretty split, if we beat a combo of Georgia, FL, USCe by that point I could see us beating them especially since it's at home. Personally OU and Bama are long shots (shocker) but hell, anything can happen. At worst I see a 7 win season which is pretty sweet, at best 10. Go VOLS and go BUTCH MOTHERF&*@%$*G JONES!

I remember this time last year. Folks were posting 6-6 or 7-5 and a bowl but likely 6-6 with losing Bray, Rivera, CP, JH.....then the season actually ended that way and Butch is a moron, Butch sucks, this ain't Cincinatti, and Butch is in over his head here....blah, blah, blah.

So I say 6-6 and hope 7-5 or better. I for one am excited about seeing this team with sum studs at every position on the field finally...not just one here or there and some quality depth to fill the back up spots. But sadly enough I will be expecting to see the same I hate Butch garbage on here if we are 6-6.

I'm not going to play the expectations game again as far as win/loss. I do expect (almost ready to demand) a team that competes EVERY week with a chance to win and has their own goals built around winning. It may be time!

This, it will happen again next year if we don't completely blow expecations out of the water. Also it is hard to have a lot of youth at OL and DL. Those are the 2 postions that players need the most time to grow physically.

Butch just now. "I want to guard against unrealistic expectations... these are 17-18 year old kids..."

It is hard to say what Jancek can do with the defense gonna be a young team at a lot of positions. He has a lot more talent to work with hopefully he can get a two deep that are close in ability.
Offense certainly depends on the offensive line. We have far better talent at all the skill positions than we had last season. We have a solid three deep at WR and RB. The TE position really added some talent. I think if the other QB's aren't ready Worley can take these guys and score some points.
I feel good about five games breaking through to six or seven we'll need our defense to be better than last season.

If we are dreaming I want to win every game but will be happy with a bowl game and win in it.

Anything short of 6-6 is a disappointment. Anything more than 7-5 is a miracle. A bowl game win is really needed this year. Next years recruits won't buy in if we show no progress after 2 years.

i am on record as saying before 2013 that 2014 will be better than 2013.

i still believe that.

however, to have great expectations for this season would be foolish. half the roster are freshman.

I am on record as saying that gator trolls should be banned from this forum.

I still believe that.

However, I have to acknowledge that you really went out on a limb there to declare that our new coach would have more success in his 2nd year than his 1st. Who would have thought?
