Auburn is below us or near us right now for 2009, and in Saban's first year, he was 6th in SEC in recruiting. We can't expect miracles.

Meanwhile, Kiffin is trying to build his team not a patchwork team of Fulmer's recruits along with his in addition to trying to be honest with these kids.

I doubt you'd hear Saban or Chizik turn away a recruit out of an honest "no need" position.

Has everyone noticed that we are losing offensive players or they are having second thoughts and the defensive players are staying committed and we are also bringing more in for the most part. This tells me that Monte is our #1 recruiter.

Auburn doesn't have the quality recruits we were going after (as a whole anyway). Saban was a rockstar and had the benefit of having a very solid recruiting home base as well. CLK had neither of those things on his side.

Yep...made the exact argument in another recruiting thread. Bama had the luxury of a large and high quality number of instate recruits wanting to play for UA.

If I am not mistaken, it was largely accepted on this board that possibly taking a hit in this recruiting class was well worth getting a new coaching staff. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong?
Now when it comes to sucking it up and taking your licks for the coaching change, nobody likes it.

Its not like people were blindsided by a possible drop in this class.
So don't throw Kiffin under the bus. His priority was to get the staff of the future. He did that. Results (good, bad) will come over the next couple of years.

Watch what happens on Wednesday, try not to get all worked up (especially by cats like posivol, thats his sole purpose in life is to instigate), and enjoy University of Tennessee football.

bro, everyone simply got over excited because of the visits. what we need to focus on is the fact that we even managed to get these guys on campus. I hate to say it, but wait till next year.

That is exactly what my problem is. I am still not going to say wait until next year though. I still have a good feeling deep down.

I asked if we would end up top 15 or left at the altar...

This was my concern all along. I don't fault CLK and staff for trying to land Tana or Lacy but to waste time on TR, AJ, among others was bothering me. I think it is great to show interest but to spend as much time as they did on these kids was a bad move IMO.

Point well taken.:eek:k:

I don't see it as an unrealistic expectation to hold the ground we had gained and expect a few highly rated kids to be brought in later given this staffs billing as great recruiters.

you dont think that its unrealistic to expect to hold onto prior commits? recruiting is all about relationships, every single staff member is gone from the guys these kids originally committed to.

Well said.

Although I believe it will fall on the deaf ears of people who demand instant gratification.

...very well stated. I am still not giving up on 2/4 and what can change between then and start of football. GO VOLS

From the way florida committ Nu'Keese Richardson was talking on rivlas.com he may sign with UT on Wednesday that would definatly help us out and from the way many of the recruits that just recently visited UT talked I would definatly not write us off just yet. There were about 4 guys that said UT trip was excellent including Marlon Brown. Im guessing we will still end up in the top 20.

With all the people that look to be de-commiting from UT it makes the decision to let Boyd and Thigpen walk all the more puzzling. I knew, just like everyone else should have, that it would be unrealistic to believe that we would finish in the top 10 recruiting this year. We had a 5-7 season and changed coaches...with that already against you it would be wishful thinking to believe that we would have an outstanding class. However, this is two recruiting class' in a row that are not up to par with what we have come to expect. It will take us a while to catch up with talent that Fla. and Bama have now.

How did Saban do it then? How is Auburn doing it?

Not sure, but I wonder about the time period between Fulmer getting fired and Kiffin being hired. Was it a faster transition in these other jobs? Did these others staffs completely quit recruiting and in some instances even push guys away? Also, Auburn has been a pretty strong program receiving a decent amount of media love in recent years. Not so much in 2007-8, but definitely 2003-6.

Nope. Saban accepted the Bama job on January 3rd, took what Shula left him, and landed the #10 class while Fulmer was stumbling to #35.

Question is if Chizik (sp?) can get a top 15 class while UT's falls from mid teens to 20's or even 30's... then what did UT get for its money?
