Give me a Chinook, Kiowa or Blackhawk every day of the week. As Yank said, fighter jets get old quick.

Also, the C-5 is infinitely more impressive than a C-17.
Their mission capable percentage would say otherwise. And the C-17 can use far more runways.

And they're stupid.

My best friend is a crew chief on a C-17, they used C-5a but for obvious reasons they switched to the smaller more affordable C-17 , very impressive aircraft .
Btw there's an airshow in Memphis this weekend I think!

It's in Millington next weekend on the 18th and 19th. Blue Angels will be there.

Warner Robbins Air Force Base and Moody Air Force Base are not too far from where I live and my job often brings me near both, so I frequently get to see various military aircraft flying around. I am on Banks Lake fairly often (very close to Moody AFB) and get to see the A-10's flying on practice attack runs. Sometimes they will be doing a live fire exercise and it's freaking awesome to hear that huge 30mm cannon rip. The A-10 is not the prettiest aircraft but it sure is cool. Damn sure wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one.

I remember when I was younger, a B-52 would frequently fly over my parent's house at extremely low altitude. Needless to say, it was a very impressive sight to have a large aircraft fly right over your head at near tree top level.

Want to **** your pants? Take a ride in a C130 and request a combat landing

It's even more fun when you don't know that's the landing you're getting and the stinkiest, most foul smelling terrorist POW is shackled to the cargo rollers six feet from you. I can still sometimes smell that odor in my nostrils from time to time. Only way I didn't throw up was intently staring at a ginger SF guy who was staring just as hard at me so he wouldn't barf either.

I worked on a Naval Air Starion for five years or so. F-18s were a daily occurence. We had lots of V-22 Osprey. All sorts of different helicopters were always flying around. The F-35 was being tested on our base. Those were ridiculously loud.

The coolest was the land based catapult on one of the runways. There were bleachers right next to it, and you could go watch different aircraft do cat launches from like 50 feet away. Those were definitely double ear protection days.

Those are fun, especially watching the passengers reactions. They look at you and ask what's going on, I say we lost a couple engines but everything will be ok.

Some people throw up in their barf bags or all over the floor. One dude threw up on my field jacket once,....I threw it away.

:good!:

Never been there. Closest NAS base I've to is Norfolk NAS and that's one big a$$ base. Those aircraft carriers are humongous.

You mean either NS Norfolk or NAS Oceana.............:p

They are rather large (TWSS), but feel pretty small when you are surrounded by miles of ocean :)

NAS Oceana. Stayed in some old barracks walking distance to Tim Hortons.

I liked traveling up north, always a Tim Hortons nearby.
