Fall of the Confederate Wall - Confederate Symbols Debate (Merged)

One wonders when the Civil War will actually end.

Longest war in American history. The Energizer Bunny of American wars.

It's amazing that some of you still deny slavery as the cause of the cival war.

Without slavery no one would have left the union, therefore no cival war.

If the northern politicians wanted to end slavery enough to go to war why then did they never offer;

1. To spend the tariff money (mostly generated from the south) on railroads, port infrastructure or industry in the south?

2. Offer to end the tariffs in exchange.

3. Offer help in adapting the southern economy.

In exchange for ending slavery. Not one of these or any other alternative was offered or considered for offer.

Probably for the same reason you don't like the government using your money.

SC specifically stated slavery as their reason for leaving. Claiming the north wasn't doing enough to end slavery is irrelevant. In their own words, SC voted to leave the U.S. due to slavery.

Keep up the fight.

BTW no serious proposal to end slavery had made it to the floor of Congress when SC succeeded. SC also threatened to succeed in 38 or 39 and one other time also (I think). SC had a history of over reacting.

NC and VA succeeded after being ordered to raise troops to invade SC and the other states that succeeded already, read their declarations. VA was even attached prior to formal succession.

SC directly stated slavery as their reason. Directly! Then other slave states joined them. It's a very simple thing

And Lincoln didn't have to attack did he?

Yes, Lincoln ordered South Carolina secessionist forces to fire upon the Federal arsenal at Fort Sumter.

The Civil War ended in 1865. I don't know how else to break it.

And thank god people like you didn't succeed in weakening and breaking apart my country.

Move on. Go buy some American flags or something and consider yourself lucky the South lost.

People like me? You must mean people who insist on the facts, or respect the fact that states have the right to leave the union just as the voluntarily joined it.

We are lucky the south lost, we'd be even luckier if Lincoln was never elected. We probably wouldn't have such an overbearing Federal Government today.

You should read some books on the Civil War. You're not very well informed.

Way more so than several posters on this board. Possibly even more so than you.

No one died at Ft Sumter, Lincoln had ample opportunity to withdraw the troops as he promised before the fort was fired upon.

We all agree that our Federal Government is getting overbearing, hell we have people on this board openly support a traitor. So, I'll ask this question.

If (pick a state) decided to succeed today, held a fair and open election with it's citizens, would you say the Federal Government has the right and obligation to attack them, burn their homes, businesses and crops? And would you support the government in doing so?

You doing better these days?

Face it, hog. Your secessionist fantasies are dead. I know you hate this country, just like Ras and Pacer do.

But don't you ever think about it again either. I'm not going to stand by and watch this continent of ours (Canada is the 51st state; give me a break) be turned into a whorehouse, like Europe, Asia, or Africa, for the best-paying interest group.

Do something about it then, boy.

You a secessionist, too, Grand?

That's sad.

As for me, I've had enough crybaby whining about not getting your way all the time to last me for a good couple of centuries.

lulz, you attempting to interpret my post as being "secessionist" is laughable.

But on the subject, what is wrong with standing up to what I might consider an oppressive government? And furthermore, why do you avoid Hog's question? Can (or even should) States leave the Union if they so desire? Does the Constitution expressly state they cannot leave if it is their desire? If memory serves, it only discusses how one would enter the Union and not how they might leave.

So the question still stands that you avoid. Can States leave the Union if it's their choice? Or is the United States nothing more than a glorified 1% biker club where "once in, never out"? And furthermore, would you support the Federal Government retaking said territory by a force of arms?

The U.S. government has been waging war on the South even before they began their military campaign in 1861.

Now, 154 years after the military campaign ended, the U.S. government, now controlled by Communists, want to destroy all vestiges of the Southern culture.
