Fan negativity

I always find it astounding how so many Vol fans think someone on the internet saying something they don’t like will hurt the program, as if no other program has fans that ever criticize the programs they root for.

If you truly believe in that, explain how Alabama ever survived Nick Saban’s first year? Or how Georgia rebounded after Kirby’s choke jobs early in his career? Or how Ohio State beat the brakes off us when Vol fans were calling their stadium Neyland North and Buckeye fans had their pitchforks out for Day?

Rationally to buy into that simpleminded BS, you would have to believe that some player is sitting there saying, “I love the UT campus, the coaches are great, I clicked with the players, they just made a playoff, and they offered me more NIL money than anyone and a starting spot, but some random guy on the internet said something kind of critical about the program, so I’m not going there.” You honestly have to be an idiot to believe that sort of thing.

When it leaks that QB1 and Fam have a meeting and want answers to the same questions everyone else has about the WR and OL, hard not to expect fans to take that and run with it.

Especially when one of the entire underperforming position groups in question enters the portal.

And after quasi-media outlets publish charts that show our NIL being outspent by not only the other competitors in the sec, but also the likes of Indiana and Virginia.

And after somebody posts other insider info casting Spyre in a negative light.

It’s hard not to question these things, and fans of any program in the country that give two $&¡7s would do the same.

Depends on whether or not FANS validate the referenced information before ADDING negative crap to the FANSSPHERE. Running with unvalidated crap is not acceptable. Doing it in serial fashion is in fact evidence of troll or NEGA status, regardless of length of following and hat ownership numbers. The net impact of both statuses are the same. Running with click bait driven info puts one at risk of challenge. There is enough substantiated truth out there to share.

Except a contingent here will be the first to tell you that you “have to donate if you want us to be competitive!”. We can’t have it both ways.

I say this as both a donor and as someone who is a member of the VC. It’s absolutely fair for any stakeholder (which is what we are) to question how things are being run and whether we are getting the most out of what we are putting in. Right now, there is very little coming back as to how things are being run. UTAD audits the system, but there is very little showing the governance (is there any?) or what standards they are basing their audit on.

A question everyone should ask when they are donating to anything - where is the money going and how is it being used? Out of every dollar, how much is going to the stated purpose and how much goes to other things like administrative overhead/facilities/etc? The website says “90% of every dollar goes to the athletes” - is that accurate? What is the percentage breakdown of athletes? Are we too top heavy? Who even makes these decisions and determinations?
I don't disagree with what you're saying. My issue is with idiots blasting social media with baseless rumors of players leaving or worse scandalous rumors about institutions involved with the program and players. This does no good and quite possibly can be detrimental to the program. You're a fan, not a journalist, so if you're not 100% sure about a story like that, then keep your mouth shut. Better yet, even if you are sure, keep your mouth shut unless it involves a clear danger to another human being.

I don't really take issue with folks throwing childish tantrums on here because they're upset the team is not playing the way they think they should be. People will never run out of ways to embabarrass themselves. It makes entertaining reading, but it shouldn't get personal.

All the information one needs to make an informed decision on how to or whether to support UTs NIL collective.

There is an easy solution to all this. The fan base picks one game and nobody go to the game, they lose millions of dollars in sales at the stadium, millions in money spent in the city for parking and hotels etc. If you live in Knox-Vegas don't go anywhere that day. Everyone just watch the game from home. Then we should land a top 5 recruiting class, have happy coaches and players, and life will be rainbows and unicorns. Also AtoZ can write a glowingly positive article about the fanbase. And if you say anything negative about my post, you're just a cyber bully and hurt my feelings. Lastly I'm taking my ball and going home, now nobody gets to play.

"Tennessee's fan base can be one of the biggest asset in sports when it's being supportive of the players and coaches. But the moment a big game doesn't go the Vols' way, that support often turns into negativity."

What a surprise. A coin has two sides.

We lost a tough game on the road against a better team than we were told. We did not play well. We had some tough injuries. Plenty of excuses to go around. It happens. We had an outstanding year on top of a couple very good years. I can shut out the naysayers. Let's get this Vol Nation back on track and support our team. No doubt our opponents are doing their best to drag us down with all sorts of bulletin board material and hateful posts. Again, let it go. VFL..GBO...and losing is not fun. I said some things in the heat of battle..it happens. Bama, Florida, Vandy and other fans were doing the same while we were beating them. Have a Happy New Year!

Over the last several days we have been inundated with lunacy about Heupel needing to go, meaningless bowl games better than CFP, sky is falling after a 10-2 season and early departure from CFP, you name it, it has been mentioned.

How do we cleanse and purge the stupidity of the few, but very loud lunatic fringe? Is it our duty to call out and deal with our own? If so, how do we accomplish this?

Happy new year and GBO!!!

I’m on board with this. We should support our team.

Who are they? Which bowl games are they in?

😂😂

I haven’t seen a single post about Heupel needing to go, here or elsewhere.

In my experience though, the people who complain about the fanbase wanting coaches fired after any degree of complaints tend to be the dumbest among any fanbase. Those are the types of people who defended Jeremy Pruitt after Georgia State and said people were dumb to doubt him, then tried to serve crow because he beat Indiana in a bowl game.

Purging can be very healthy. Most large companies do it probably every 10 years or so, and purging NegaVols periodically is also a healthy activity. Anyone wishing not to renew their membership to Vol Nation is free to leave the room. Coach Heupel is here to stay - we hope!! Go Vols
