Favorite Excuse for Dooley?

Wow...just...wow...really? What the hell did Dooley "rebuild"? He "rebuilt" us into Vanderbilt's whipping boy? You know usually when people use the term "rebuild", they mean that you improved on the previous guy's record. That's kind of, you know, the definition of the word. Dooley "rebuilt" by posting a worse record than any coach before him, in UT's 100+ year history. That's your version of rebuilding? Wow. I mean, I didn't realize people were actually still this delusional...Amazing.

Ur response proves to me that you have zero reading comprehension ability.

I like how we keep re-setting this year 1st season / 2nd Season / After Mizz loss - 3rd Season / After Vandy Loss - No Season

Do you think the program, not necessarily wins/losses, is better or worse off than when he took over?

If worst, why?

It's about the same.

Tennessee does not have the talent to compete with upper echelon sec teams.

Tennessee is still years away from potentially competing for a championship.

It''s still a rebuilding job.

Your first point is off; your last three point are correct.

People seriously underestimate how bad the program was when Dooley took over. The program has improved in virtually every way on and off the field except defense. It is hard to tell how much of the defense is shotty personal or shotty coaching (DC).

Yeah you, very few on here, and I are the only ones that for some reason understand how bad it was. His job here can not be compared to previous coaches. Problem I have is that people think that it's just easy to hire/fire coaches or just pick up or drop players at will. Recruiting limitations hurt the growth when you are having to stock up all across the board.

CBJ doesn't have these issues because he was left solid players at most spots on the field and some places have solid depth. It is realllly tough to say where we were anywhere near the talent we are now when DD took over. Lots of attrition and players kicked off team due to things that just frankly needed to be done. Janzen Jackson, DR, Clear all needed to leave. At the end of the day DD did a lot of the hard work and has left CBJ something reallly solid to build on. He has no room to wiggle in regards to winning especially when he's getting paid 1.1 mil a yr more than the guy that did all the actual hard work.

We were 7-5, beat two of our four yearly rivals, outplayed Bama and looked to be on the road to relevance the year before he arrived. Three years later expectations are crap, Volnation divided, a defeatist attitude from the head coach had permeated the fanbase and the program. Looking back he will be regarded as the worst hire in our history.

What areas are we so much better in ? Not qb, wr,rb, or db.

I think it's funny how Dooley apologists like to make it out like the guy did a tremendous favor when all he basically did was set up the VFL program and added on X amount of players from a depleted roster. Those were the two things that were his contributions to our program--that's it. Never mind the fact that those guys were questionable talent-wise....Ultimately the continuation of the problem that Fulmer caused has been passed over and over and over until it lands with BJ. The only way this can be stopped is we need BJ to come up with some big wins in recruiting and fast. Dooley had a few good pickups in recruiting but the problem was (and anyone can disagree with me on this) his talent evaluation was just average for this league---and average when you combine with Phil's terrible recruiting plus Kiffin's disaster year still leaves a mess to clean up. Butch needs to overachieve with average talent and have a respectable record---and that was Dooley's task the last year (the first year it was awful talent) and he couldn't get it done and you can understand once you read the criticism Dooley was awful at a lot of aspects of this job.

No offense dude...but i'm tired of everyone blaming Dooley for everything. Always saying he didn't do this or that.
Truth is i think Dooley is a good person that really cared about the University of Tennesse and he really wanted to succeed here. He was just in over his head. It's not his fault he was not qualified for the job.
I blame Hamilton for hiring him in the first place.

Tell that to all the past players who hadnt even seen the new facilities until cbj invited them in.

He rebuilt us into longing for the glory days of Lane Kiffin's tenure at UT.

Okay, so it's the dead period. The coaches have been hired and not alot is going on at the moment, so I thought we might have some fun looking back a past silliness.

In the past year, we saw alot of excuses from the Doolovers as to why their idol couldn't win. What was your favorite?

I'm going with the guy who claimed that Tyler Bray was throwing games so he could get Gruden. A close second is probably the poster that argued our program is historically the same as South Carolina.

What excuses still make you chuckle?

moral victory, we are young, not his guys, trying 3-4 D takes time, he needs 2 more years, injuries, wilcox left, bray headcase. there are another 100 probably, just tells you exactly what people know on this board. dooley should have been fired right after the UK game, but hart being the football idiot he is let us suck for another year. it didn't help us either because we had to go 4 or 5 coaches in before we got jones. i still can't believe how hart has a job considering how bad our program has fallen.

Many people on here are saying how bad the program was when DD took over, but at the same time he let some pretty good talent walk out the door.
I think after seeing this dude work the past 3 years its not unfathomable that he couldve bungled the Bryce Brown deal as well as some recruits that CLK may have had locked up.

My 2 worst memories of DD:
Year 0 - Total lack of accountability by creating a year 0, which oddly enough was his best season.

Then buying out the UNC game which made us look like total Pu$$$$$$

Other than that he was a lawyer with a known last name and smart tongue

What's amazing is how so many folks here haven't figured out that DD is gone, not coming back, yet can't quit whining about the DD era. Instead of looking forward to the BJ era. When the bus stops, you should get off and go wherever you're going, whether home or Alpha Cygni.

First of all the guy posted a tongue and cheek thread as to allow people to laugh off the past few miserable years of that regime.
Currently I am very excited about the BJ era we are all enjoying but truthfully and understandably he hasn't done too much yet to talk about outside hiring a pretty good staff.

So not sure the harm in letting ppl gripe and poke fun at the past few years.
But if you want to be above that then go ahead, then again it bothered you enough to open up the thread read it and comment on it.
