Favorite or Most Exciting player you have seen play?

I will co-sign this based purely on ESPN Classic footage. Bernard was otherworldly in his prime -- there was no way to stop that guy from scoring (and this at the NBA level). I would love love love to see some more footage of Bernard in college. Not sure how easy that would be to come by, though.

"the best scorer I've ever seen or played against."
--Larry Bird (1984)

YouTube - Bernard King

You can't even find a decent picture of him in college, much less footage. I can't imagine much of it even exists, since almost none of the games were televised back then. You either went to Stokely or you missed out. I'm lucky my dad liked to take me to games.

25 years later, that Bird quote still holds up. I still don't think I've seen anybody who was a better pure scorer than King when he was healthy. Hard to imagine what his career would have looked like if he hadn't blown out his knee.

Bernard King is arguably the best player EVER in the SEC.

I see a lot of votes for Lofton, who was a very exciting player, but make no mistake, he wouldn't be remotely close to making the starting lineup on UT's all-time team.

Am I high?

I enjoyed JP last year but he played like 10 good games the entire time he was here. How can you be that excited about 10 games?

He was about as exciting as Ramar Smith...

We had season tickets growing up in the early 70s. Bernard king. Hands down. But the best player I ever saw was Pete maravich. Go find some tube videos of him. The guy was incredible. I can remember passes bouncing off of his teammates heads because they couldn't tell when one was coming, he was so quick.

At UT -
King - Longest arms (or appeared to be) and quickest under the basket I've ever seen.
Grunfeld - Hardest playing I've seen and extremely smart player.

Bernard King was a better basketball player than Pete Maravich, and it's really not close. Maravich led the world in scoring, but of course he played for his dad on a team that basically did nothing but feed him the ball. Maravich led the world in scoring, but he also led the world in attempts; he scored 1.15 points per shot (career shooting percentage at LSU: 44). Meanwhile King shot 59 percent (!!!) as a Vol and scored over 1.4 points per FG attempt. I will grant that Maravich was a vastly better passer, but since King was one of the best handful of scorers the game of basketball has ever seen, I can't really imagine that there's anybody I would want him to pass it to. King is the greatest basketball player in the history of the SEC.

When Jajuan Smith got so hot at the beginning of the game against Memphis for the number 1 ranking, it gave me chills. He set the tone in that game and made it clear that we weren't going to be pushed around. Man, he was awesome. One of my favorite moments ever in Tennessee hoops.
2. Chris Lofton
3. Tony Harris
4. Wayne Chism
5. Scotty Hopson

Thats why its my list. When he's playing good, he easily pumps me up as much as any Tennessee player I've ever watched. Flat top, above the rim awesomeness.

Having not grown up to see Bernard King play, my choice is obvious. It has to be Chris Lofton. I've never seen a guy put a team on his back the way he did in his sophmore, junior, and senior years. His range was unlimited and everytime he shot a basketball from three point land, you always thought it was going on. Plus, he was clutch.

We haven't had a guy that is consistent from beyond the arc since Lofton and even Jajuan Smith. McBee has shown some flashes ,but he's too inconsistent and most of his misses are off the back of the iron.

Chris Lofton was an unbelievable player. If he hadn't been fighting cancer his senior year he would be in the NBA.

I still feel to this day that he should have taken the redshirt. I love the heart he had to play through the weakness his senior year ,because he knew that this team was loaded and I commend him for that. He's slowly climbing back ,and I hope that eventually some NBA team will take a chance on him. He was shooting 42% from three in the development league this season.

My OP didn't say most consistent did it? Nope. It said most exiting, and the most exiting college basketball memory I have is the Elite 8 and the exiting guy who got us there was J.P. Say what you want about him but without him we were gone earlyyyy. He played amazing defense on Evan Turner. Thus, my OPINION is born. Thank you.

Earvin Johnson. Watched him in HS, College and a few games live with the Lakers. Best in my lifetime, including MJ.
