Federal Death Penalty brought back to life

It would be something if we could have a discussion about the death penalty without the anti-abortion crowd showing up.
If there is ever a chance of a mistake, then the state should never execute anyone.

The last few months I've been watching a lot of the ID channel, or as I like to call it, the murder channel. One thing I've come to conclude is I don't agree with a lot of the sentencing for murderers. I honestly do not think it is harsh enough. I understand the reform argument for lesser crimes, but when you take the life of someone with intent, I'm not sure if you should ever see release. The person you killed will never see life again, so why should you go free? This is, of course, barring certain circumstances such as self-defense, or abuse, or other reasonable arguments.
Hard to quit watching, ain't it? I think a lot of it is the perp giving the DA something they want. So they short the charges.

We know that on cases prior to the rise of DNA evidence. Now we have DNA evidence that can conclusively link perpetrators to their crimes, so does that change things? Maybe the death penalty should be okay for cases where DNA evidence is present, or where, due to conclusive witness evidence, guilt is not in doubt? Maybe it's the circumstantial cases where the death penalty should be off the table? I'm not sure total elimination of the death penalty is necessary.

There's lots of people willing to cite the more iffy/gray area cases that have happened, especially when the conviction is decades ole and lacking all the forensic or even caught on camera evidence so common today. There are lots of people that are guilty of heinous crimes and there's literally zero question of their guilt. (often just look to see how the defense is arguing the case) Hell, some know they're stone cold caught and can admit being guilty with no remorse whatsoever. Let's start with those people.

It's become my default channel when nothing else of interest is on. Used to be AHC, which shows a lot of history stuff, but needed a change. There are some depraved people out there.

'Womb raider' killer Lisa Montgomery is Executed - the first female federal prisoner for 67 years - as her lawyer blasts Trump and 'the craven bloodlust of a failed administration'

The only woman on federal death row has been executed by lethal injection after an 11th-hour order from the Supreme Court cleared all legal obstacles to carrying out her death sentence.

Lisa Montgomery, 52, was pronounced dead at 1.31am EST on Wednesday at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana in what could be the final federal execution under President Donald Trump.

Montgomery was convicted in 2007 in Missouri of kidnapping and strangling Bobbie Jo Stinnett, then eight months pregnant. Montgomery cut Stinnett's fetus from the womb. The child survived.

She had driven about 170 miles from her Melvern, Kansas, farmhouse to the northwest Missouri town of Skidmore in 2004 under the guise of adopting a puppy from Stinnett, a 23-year-old dog breeder whom she met online.

She strangled Stinnett with a rope before performing a crude cesarean and fleeing with the baby.

Stinnett was arrested the next day after showing off the premature infant, Victoria Jo, who survived and turned 16 last month. The girl has not spoken about the tragedy.

Prolife here.

Also anti capital punishment. For the some of the same reasons. No idea what happens after death. That severely changes the risk of being wrong and price paid for being wrong. I don't think there is a justice system that is better than the US(sure some tweaks can be argued) but it's not perfect. Therefore, the possibility of being wrong makes it hard to agree to death sentences.

Charles Fain Lehman - JANUARY 12, 2021 4:15 PM

More than 70 House and Senate Democrats announced Tuesday that they will reintroduce a bill ending the federal death penalty, enacting one of President-elect Joe Biden's campaign promises.

Spearheaded by incoming Senate majority whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) and democratic socialist congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), the bill would prohibit a sentence of death for any federal offender and require the resentencing of the 55 individuals currently on federal death row.

I guess investing in privately run prisons might be a good stock under the left.

Should have hung her by her ankles until she died with reruns of UT football games in the background as extra punishment.

I look forward to reading about Eric Boyd's death. I hope they botch the hell out of that one and he takes three hours to die.

I'd still have brackets, but they would be simplified and I agree with you on tax rate applying to all forms of income and no deductions or exclusions. Something like:

0 to $50,000 8 %
Next $100,000 12 %
Next $250,000 15 %
Next $400,000 18%
Anything over $1 million 20%
This must be the only thing I’ve ever agreed with LG on.

It needs to be indexed to a poverty level or something however you want to define that. Having hard numbers like this is just stupid because inflation will move everybody into the higher categories as time goes on. Remember how the AMT was gonna 'get rich people'? I know far far more people that are affected by that POS tax law than I did when it came out.

As I said in another post, I want a constitutional amendment for 10% flat tax and then a consumption tax on food and everything else. Drug dealers and Mormons gotta eat too, and that's the only way to make them pay.

'I am sorry for my crimes': Federal death row inmate Corey Johnson, 52, apologizes for murdering seven men as he is Executed by Lethal Injection after last meal of pizza and strawberry milkshake - but he complains he didn't get jelly donuts he requested

The federal execution of convicted murderer Corey Johnson has been carried out.

Johnson, 52, was pronounced dead at 11.34pm on Thursday following lethal injection with pentobarbital at the U.S. Department of Justice's execution chamber in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Officials moved forward with the death sentence just minutes after the U.S. Supreme Court denied emergency motions to stay the execution on Thursday night.

Johnson was convicted of murdering seven people in Virginia in 1992 as part of a drug-trafficking ring. His lawyers say he has an intellectual disability that means it would be unconstitutional to execute him.

Better get rid of them while they can in another week they'll be set for life all expenses paid and voting rights restored.
