I posed this question a day or two ago. Is Trump above the law or not? The general view from your side has to be that he is, at least to some extent. Here, we now know that the DOJ tried to get the records back by asking nicely. Despite this, Trump didn't comply. Faced with that, what do you do? If you say nothing, that can only be because you believe he's not subject to these laws (or perhaps that he is subject to these laws, but the Biden administration's DOJ cannot properly enforce them, which is still a form of immunity).

If I had to guess ( and I do , just like everyone else ) I’d guess that he was being Trump and doing what he always does with the establishment , thumbing his nose at them . Up until this point there’s never been a reason to think that anyone with any brain cells would raid an ex presidents home over what I’m assuming will end up being nothing but “ classified papers “ . There’s no way for Trump to get in any real trouble over it , the FBI will lose all credibility over it , the right will flog Biden over it , it will cause more voters to turn out on the right , and a very bad precedent was set . That’s my honest guess .

This is laughable. Politicians are above the law. There is no such thing as fair and balanced Justice in DC. I know you won’t admit it but plenty before Trump have broken the law and have not seen a single days punishment for it. So get out with your moral equivalency crap. You don’t care about the law being fair. You only care about getting Trump because you are mad that every other attempt to get him failed.

Doesn't this point fly in the face of your surmise? With that in mind, why assume it's just his having classified docs?

Nobody is above the law . He isn’t , you aren’t and I’m not . We should turn ourselves in every time we break the law , any law . What you should ask is .. will raiding an ex presidents home be worth using up all your political points , killing any credibility that your 3 letter agencies have left and spur on more voters from the right here at mid terms ? Will Trump go to jail , pay a fine or have anything done to him because he didn’t turn what they said he should turn over to them ? No way in hell was this going to be worth the fall out when it’s over .

Weigh the options .. will raiding Trump be worth what is in those papers or would it have been better to continue to negotiate with him ?

So you are of the view that Trump is above the law. Namely, as long as his criming doesn't outweigh the political consequences of law enforcement pursuing him for that criming, he can continue to crime in ways that you and I cannot.

Why the **** should they negotiate with him? They gave him ample opportunity. Would we be extended the same amount of time? Hell no.
