Ferguson Riots

Horrible news.

If I'm mayor, I'm privatizing. It's the only solution. A total facelift would help the relations calm down immediately.

Disagree.

Nothing will calm down this situation. I don't care if the police are privatized or not. Someone's dumb enough to take shots at them now, they will in the future as well.

Two hits, to include one head shot, from 120 yards with a pistol is not exactly easy.

I'd say it was a rifle.

True. But I've seen a FN 5.7 accurate at that range. However it's highly unlikely those fools had one or even know what this is.

No! All city councilmen resign, hold special elections then revamp the police department to resemble the community.

Give them what they deser..... want.

What the F?

Yeah..a private cop force like OCP would really do wonders there.

Thats like when we privatize our military overseas..that has always worked out real well for relations right? Law enforcement shouldn't be a business..

What will calm things down is an unrelenting brute force crackdown with martial law. Some people only understand an iron fist that gets crammed right up their ass.

If people are taking shots at the Ferguson police because they are perceived to be racist (historically, not just recently), why wouldn't changing the personnel and brand make a difference?

Because it's "the man" and it doesn't matter if it happens to be Ferguson PD, Mizzou State Police, FBI, G4S or Securitas.

At this point, it has the unique promise of not being tried yet so you very well could be right. But I personally don't think it matters at this point since the random few (and I don't lump the protesters in with them) will see any measure of authority as a threat and toss the match into the drum of gasoline trying to stir things up. People using anything over two brain cells know that shooting at cops is not the answer and nothing good will come of it. But someone did. Even after everything should have been settled a long time ago, someone wounded two cops that very likely had nothing to do with the situation between Brown and Wilson and shot at them because of who they represented. And I don't think changing of the guard is going to fix that problem.

Of course, but when the first black gets killed we will have Ferguson 2.0.

But that's the problem, isn't it? Right or wrong, the police have no control. They can't shoot someone who is beating them and wrestling away their gun without fear of violent retaliation from the public. How can we expect them to correct it from here? It's just not happening.

Agree with this. The announcement of the resignation was just a way to make sure there was attention paid at the time. No different than any form of terrorism, in that respect.

I hope they find them, try them, and they are imprisoned for life, no parole.

There are people who really like that .

Why does the change have to come from only the police department? It seems to me that there needs to be a lot of change happening in the community as well.

Good question. I think thugs gonna be thugs, and when Uncle Tom starts locking them up, well dey gon be shot too.

How is introducing a private security force into a volatile situation like Ferguson going to help?

Things were likely hunky-dory in the town in Texas they jumped into. This situation? I'm not sure a company worth their salt would want to be put in that kind of situation much less with random officers being shot.

Well, I was speaking from the mayor's perspective. He can't control the community, obviously, but he does have control over the police department.

So put yourself in the Mayor's shoes...

Other than firing the police and going with private security, what reforms would you make right now?

The problem with your naysaying is the alternative is to keep going with the status quo, which has been failing for decades.

What if a private force fails? Then we're right back where we were and you have an argument against privatizing that you can cling to for all eternity.

You're afraid to try, cause it might work.
