Fergusons Dad on TSR

I liked what he said. He somewhat stood up for Worley, which was interesting. Riley's dad seems like a good guy.

Summary for those at work?

Basically said he's got an arm similar to Bray's and that he is more accurate throwing on the run than in the pocket. Also said his deep ball is nice. Said he's more mobile than Bray, but not a running QB and wouldn't expect him to be able to rush 15 yards, maybe 5.

I thought his dad was very reasonable. It's hard not to praise your own son, but I found him to be objective and realistic.

Here's a neat tidbit:

"That’s why I was a little bit reluctant to talk on the radio, cause all of these fan sites are just, they can be brutal. They either love you or hate you.”

Nothing could be further from the truth...

Overall a good interview and a father sticking up for his son. Nothing in there about "my boy should start because he's the man." In fact, the complete opposite when he was talking about sitting for a year, gaining weight and practice. Was pretty objective for the most part. Hitting both his strengths and his weaknesses.

All those in favor of Ferg say I.

very nice stuff ..i like how his dad never over praised his son or threw worley under the bus ..instead he felt for Worley and talked about how hard it is to make 18 year old understand ..

Whether it's this week or in 2 years I know this just solidifies that I'd love to see what this kid can do for UT
(On Riley’s “It” factor)
“I think with Riley he’s just a fierce competitor. He wants to win at all costs, I mean, to I guess his fault where he will try to push a ball where, you know, probably shouldn’t throw. But he wants to win and proof of that is the Elite 11. We didn’t know until he got back from the Elite 11 that he had a broken thumb on his throwing hand. He was still in the top 11 after Day 3, but Day 4 he couldn’t even pick up a football without using both hands. There’s just no way a quarterback can throw in a situation like that.
(On Riley’s winning ways)
“They lost 2 games. We lost a game to Mallard Creek his junior year which is Marquez North’s team. They were our big rival. Matter of fact we just lost to them last week. They’re nationally ranked, we’re not. We graduated all these D1 guys. He lost against Mallard Creek, against Page, and he lost a game I think when he was 8 years old in Pop Warner in the championship game. He’s lost 3 until this one we lost this week so 4 now counting the Oregon game.”
(On Riley being a “gun-slinger”)
“I think he’s kind of a mini-Bray, he’s got a little bit more wheels than Tyler does for sure. And I think he throws way better rolling out of the pocket. He’s got that arm, that gun-slinger mentality that people say. He likes to get it downfield and I think his strength is the deep ball that he throws really well, deep, lays it in there pretty good. His accuracy just amazes me at times. He won a lot of these camps he went to, the accuracy awards. Of course in the Elite 11 he did well with a broken thumb, that’s kind of tough.
(On Riley and the opportunity to start in the Swamp)
“Absolutely. Yeah, he’s ready to go. He keeps telling me every day he’s hoping by the 4th game, that’s what he’s been telling me, cause I guess that’s when Peyton took over in his 3rd or 4th game. He wants to play. How I look at it, it’s gonna be tough for any of the 4 this weekend with that defense they got. I would hate for him or Dobbs or even Peterman to get in and just, yea know, get destroyed and then of course the fan base will just shred you so it’s kind of unfair. And in Worley’s case I think it’s unfair that he’s already a junior, never redshirted and people are already starting to talk beyond him as a junior. It’s a tough thing. It’s a tough thing as a parent because you want your kid to get a chance. You don’t want him to get thrown to the wolves and the fan base, you know just like anybody, would want to protect. That’s why I was a little bit reluctant to talk on the radio, cause all of these fan sites are just, they can be brutal. They either love you or hate you.”

I think his dad is right about fan behavior on sites. They're rabid, quick to judge, and can be downright mean. All too eager to stomp a player who down or makes a mistake, or bone-head decision teens are known for.

All that aside, and I haven't given up on Worley yet though I'm having doubts I didn't before-trying RF may not be a bad idea.

More proof that the kids and parents read these sites. I sure wish some on where would keep their brutally ignorant rants and raves to themselves. We need to post things on here that we would not be afraid to say to the faces of the coach/player/their family.

Kudos to Riley's dad for telling it like it is. We have a great situation for the future at QB with 3 really talented freshmen.

it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if he stepped up and took over the Qb job

I think the key words are "step up"

Been telling such numbskulls for a long time, they're the best recruiting tools for opponents coaches you could ever ask for. But the nitwits just don't get it.

Sounds like he was trying to insulate Riley from future roastings on VN, which I would do too for my son. Probably been reading the threads on Worley.

Wouldn't or won't have an impact either way. Hell Mz Terry posts here and we have a "where is Croom" thread. When you play at a stage this big, right or wrong, criticism comes with it. If it was easy everyone would do it.

Idk. Brays arm was elite. His head was what wasn't. I don't think Rileys arm is near Brays.

I watched the E 11 when he was on it. He threw a darn good ball. Just from what I saw prior to his broken thumb, I would say his arm is the closest one to Bray. Hope with time he has PMs head and TMs luck.

Parents need to stay the hell off the radio especially those involved in a QB controversy. There is no place for it even if thier comments are appropriate

Posted this in another forum. Nothing can be gained by parents going public

You didn't get the memo: we have no controversy.
