There is no moccasin tribe. Maybe it was their logo. Could you be more specific? I don't remember it.
Same people that pressured the Braves, Redskins St Johns etc. Chattanooga shortened it to Mocs and went with the Mocking bird as the mascot instead of the Indian.

They once used a pair of shoes (maybe one shoe) and also at one time...a snake as their logo. I didn't know that. It's at the link I posted ... under..."what is a moc?".

I would imagine, like most all universities, their own educators pressured them more than anyone.

Pro teams are a horse of a different color.

I always assumed they were named after the snake.
