Every year before the season starts, I find a way to feel good about Vols football. This year is no exception.

And every year I say it feels different this time. I'm sure I could go back in my post history where I said that last year, and the year before, and the year before.

But it just kind of hit me after listening to Todd Kelly's interview, it's never truly different. It's always the same. It's Tennessee football. And there are reasons why we can and should win.

The only difference I'm feeling this year is coming from the players, and former players, our coaches, other fans, and most importantly my dad, a man who's followed the Vols longer than most of the fans on this site have been alive. The vibe really isn't like anything I'm used to, and I don't know how to describe it. But I like it. I like it alot. It feels like everybody is playing the same game, following the same path, going towards the same destination....FIND A WAY TO WIN. Do what it takes, whatever it takes, and find a way to win. And it feels good to be a fan of the Tennessee Vols!

I agree with the sentiment (saying it's different or it feels different). I've been trying to temper my optimism, because I haven't the past several years and I've been disappointed. Usually players are saying that they are excited and there's a new excitement in the weight room/practice because of x,y, and z reasons. But then I just get let down in the fall.

This year we have Butch. Hope that makes all the difference. Two things I like about Butch:
1) Wining history
2) bringing in past players. I think it's important for some reason.
Dooles possessed neither of these qualities.

There's definitely a different expectation from the coaches and they are really supporting the players as they train them to be winners. I am worried about this year though because of the talent we lost. Hopefully we'll see much different results with good coaching. The future is bright though.

Bringing in alumni is important for the same reason it is in any organization.

I was in the Acappela choir at Carson-Newman when I was there. I was an instrumental major who until I got involved in men's chorus at CN had no background in vocal music. When I made Acapella I felt overwhelmed at first but it was older alumni in the program who had been there before me that helped to me know that it was a family and that the traditions of the choir are important.

The same goes for the vols. We are one of the few out there that has a true tradition attached to our team. It's important for our VFLs that went through the program to show the new guys what it's all about. It's all about relationships and connections and butch gets it.

I usually have great optimism at the start of the season, but after the 3rd game or so we usually find out what we really have. I hope we will compete in SEC ball, and defin. win out of conference games....I LIKE bUTCH AND WHAT HE HAS DONE SO FAR... GO VOLS..........

Different coach-THANK GOODNESS-different season. It's a tough schedule, especially week 3 and 4. Could be anywhere from 6-8 wins.
