Let's be clear. They can "reside" here, as you put it, as long as they remember where they are and don't attempt to throw cheap shots.

Every year before the season starts, I find a way to feel good about Vols football. This year is no exception.

And every year I say it feels different this time. I'm sure I could go back in my post history where I said that last year, and the year before, and the year before.

But it just kind of hit me after listening to Todd Kelly's interview, it's never truly different. It's always the same. It's Tennessee football. And there are reasons why we can and should win.

The only difference I'm feeling this year is coming from the players, and former players, our coaches, other fans, and most importantly my dad, a man who's followed the Vols longer than most of the fans on this site have been alive. The vibe really isn't like anything I'm used to, and I don't know how to describe it. But I like it. I like it alot. It feels like everybody is playing the same game, following the same path, going towards the same destination....FIND A WAY TO WIN. Do what it takes, whatever it takes, and find a way to win. And it feels good to be a fan of the Tennessee Vols!

I do the same too..!! Last year I was hyped up with Dooley saying we aren't around for kicking any more and then ESPN put us in team to watch etc ...further Patterson, hunter and Bray combo got me hyped. Like most of us I really thought Sunseri was going to make an explosive coach !! Sadly last year will always remain as what could have been year with the amazing offense we had !!
This year I have a feeling Worley is going to be a good leader and a good passer !! He will hopefully win the job and even if peterman wins it, it will be more exciting cz if he beats Worley ..he must be good !!
O-line will be good as usual !! Defense will hopefully see improvement ..can't be worse than last year..Randolph and McNeil have me excited !! Curt Maggit and A J johnson are beasts !!
In WR, we should be fine !! I see Carter playing a little more Pig Howard, Paul Harris and the other 4* guy that was hurt last year will keep us in good shape !!
RBs will be interesting to see !! Lane and Neal should be better than last year !! They did 'good' last year but not spectacular !!
TE is a concern and D-line is something I am not sure about !! But looks like we got a Coach whom players love to talk about and play for ..that is a big win !!
Kicking..lets not even go there ..I thought Lincoln was the worst possible kicker but Palardy beats him by miles and miles !!
GO VOLS !! bUTches !!

For a while now, it has been that we saw ourselves losing due to missing depth, or talent, or experience...and that next year...well...next year we'll have that resolved. And last year was the pinnacle of that sentiment...our offense finally showed up...we've arrived...and then our defense fell to new lows.

But the truth is that we lacked a leader with vision and a team with faith. Butch gets the most of out his players because he shows them a vision and convinces them that they can achieve it. He then chases that with butt busting effort and pushes them well beyond what they believe they can endure. The end result is that his teams play well above their talent, their faith drives them to succeed and keeps them in games until the end, and their physical conditioning keeps them going longer than their opponents.

We will always be short of this or that or the other...at least until we manage to elevate recruiting to a level we haven't seen in a while...but it won't matter. Because good players with vision and belief and endurance can go further than elite players without them. Wanna see what that looks like? Louisville embarrassing Florida with half the talent...or Cincy going from losing by 16, to winning by 14. Two things that Tennessee with superior talent couldn't...or wouldn't...accomplish in the absence of vision and faith.

Yeah...the Kool-aid tastes good. I'll have orange please...

I agree with the sentiment (saying it's different or it feels different). I've been trying to temper my optimism, because I haven't the past several years and I've been disappointed. Usually players are saying that they are excited and there's a new excitement in the weight room/practice because of x,y, and z reasons. But then I just get let down in the fall.

This year we have Butch. Hope that makes all the difference. Two things I like about Butch:
1) Wining history
2) bringing in past players. I think it's important for some reason.
Dooles possessed neither of these qualities.

Ok, first, forget the Dooley stuff. He's gone, never coming back. Now, here's what I think is different.CBJ is Vol-izing our players. He's making the VFL program actually mean something. He's demanding players know each others' names, recognize each other without reading the helmet or jersey labels. Making them know a Vol when they see one. He's insisting you're not coming to play at the UT so much as playing for the UT. Stressing that further, he insists they know players who wore their jersey numbers and what they did and the need to make those numbers' legacy a source of pride not only for the current player but the ones who wear it in the future.

Now, we know we've had some former players on national TV not state they played at the UT but instead cite their high schools. CBJ is instilling in players such a level of pride that we are unlikely to see such disrespect from out former players under his watch. I do believe he is making sure that our players dump and lose what happened to Bamma some years ago. After a game where we beat them, one of our players went to Bear Bryant and told him, "Coach, there's no pride in them jerseys." So I think CBJ is making sure when our players hit the feel, those orange or white jerseys are just overflowing with pride. That sign on the wall they rush up and slap on the way out to the field will become more than a mere ritual. This is the vibe I'm getting from CBJ. I want to be cautiously optimistic but I find myself genuinely excited and online daily for every little tidbit about our team.

We’ll be fighting dogs and cats of various species.
Bashing in the heads of things known as aggies.
Eating gator meat, while knocking on commodores;
Re-anchoring them to their doormat chores.
We’ll be plucking the feathers of a gamecock;
Wading in a tidal pool, the Vols are going to rock.
