First 2015 CFP rankings

I sleep well at night knowing that Bama fans would have hung a makeshift banner and made their own crystal ball out of methamphetamine if the shoe were on the other foot that year.

Of course, we all know LSU wouldn't have sniffed the title game if they lost 9-6 that year. It would have been Bama - 52 Okie State - 3. Because the eye test only applies to Bama.

I disagree. LSU is absolutely in that game if the roles were reversed.

Ridiculous reasons given on ESPN to justify some of this bull****. Baylor, with a SOS of 109, because of who they have upcoming?? That makes sense.

I think you might have misheard them.

Baylor's SOS has been a 109 so far, as in based on who they've played in their first 7 games (1-7 SMU, FCS Lamar, 2-2 Rice, 5-4 Texas Tech, 0-8 Kansas, 3-4 West Virginia, 3-5 Iowa State).

Their upcoming SOS over their last 5 games ranks at about 9. (So overall, their SOS would fall around 57 or so.)

They should pick up if they win out with the rest of their schedule...however a lot of this, though, is because of how they do their OOC scheduling; like last year they spend their 3 OOC games playing an FCS team and two usually pretty poor mid-major teams (Lamar + SMU & Rice this year; Northwestern St + SMU & Buffalo last year). This hurt them with the committee last year as the season was ending as well. If they scheduled scheduled and played an OOC game against a Power 5 conference team that was say middle of the road or even a lower half of its conference team, they'd get hurt less by this.

Iowa has an easier schedule

At this point, it's more based off of whom they've already played, though, not who's left or they still will play.

Iowa's played / beaten 3 teams with winning records (Pitt, Wisconsin, Northwestern), 4 teams that are at least .500 (add Illinois), and beaten a currently ranked team (plus one that was ranked when played).

Currently, Baylor's played and beaten 1 team with a winning record (Texas Tech), no ranked teams, and 2 teams that are at least .500 (the second one is 4-4 CUSA Rice).

The back end of Baylor's schedule is strong enough, though, that - as long as OU doesn't do a disappearing act from the polls like last season & TCU/Ok St doesn't fall off too heavily - it's most likely going to make up for it.

Bottom line, if Tennessee had a kicker and the coaches that put the metal to the pedal we would be ranked # 1 in the rankings.

More likely, we'd still be at 1-2 losses.

But we'd be ranked and in the lead for the East.

I agree, but honestly at this point as long as it's not Ole Miss I'll be okay. The SEC does not need Ole Miss as its champion.

Memphis would, however.

Not to mention I'm sure Ole Miss would like to actually make the Conference Title game for the first time in...ever.

Keep an eye on Memphis, because this (pretty much right here) is about as close as a non-Power 5 team is likely ever going to get as far as making the playoffs.

Wherever they end up - if they win out - might be the highest you'll see one of those teams finish (/ closest one will get to reaching the playoffs). This system's designed not to work in favor of those schools.

They really could have used Temple upsetting Notre Dame, and Ole Miss somehow winning the West or even the conference helps them immensely.

Memphis won't make the playoff - period. Even if they win out. You can bet the house on that. They'll get a spot in a premiere bowl game and that's the best they can hope for.

Lol at Bama being ahead of Florida and Baylor being so high. Oh and Notre Dame at 5? Lmao

Maybe, but I mean, they do only have a 2-point loss to the #1 team, and they're beating they're winning these games having to start guys pretty far down on their depth charts.

That's exactly what I was saying.

This is the closest you'll probably see a non-Power 5 team get in these rankings; not that they'd make it.

This ranking system is designed to allow enough of an opening to avoid anything anti-trust, while keeping those schools out of the limelight.

tOSU was ranked # 16 in last years first playoff poll, and they won the whole thing.

For every team on that list, all you need to remember is that you must win every game from here on. Any loss now, to any team = eliminated. You control nothing else.

These rankings don't really matter. Barring a little chaos, the playoff is going to be Clemson, the SEC champ (LSU/Bama/Florida), the Big 12 champ (Baylor/TCU/Oklahoma/Oklahoma State), and the Big Ten champ (Ohio State/Michigan State/Iowa). If any of them lose then the winner of Notre Dame/Stanford will move in. If more than one of them loses it starts getting interesting.

Watch out for Houston because the Cougars are going to ruin Memphis road to the Playoffs and will make it themselves

Houston kinda sorta rained on Memphis' parade last year. Memphis would have won the conference outright if not for the inexplicable UH loss at home. As it was, they had to split the title 3 ways.

If LSU is better than Tennessee then they have a great shot at beating bama.

Alabama with two weeks to rest and that evil midget to prepare will likely be a different animal.

You sound like an Alabama homer. "It's not that TN is getting better, it's that we're just tired today".

Good Lord man, quit turning everything into a perceived slight. I'm talking about LSU being able to beat Alabama. Don't you think Sabam having two weeks to prepare for LSU is an advantage?? ...

In that case I hope FSU beats UF

It's dumb. But as far as the SEC teams go, it'll play itself out, so current rankings are irrelevant. If any one of LSU, Bama, or Florida wins out, that team is going to the playoff.

What if Florida and Bama both win out and Ole Miss doesn't lose another regular season game?

SEC Championship would be between UF and Ole Miss. UF would be a one loss team with a conference championship. Bama would be a one loss team that didn't appear in a conference championship.

In that scenario, if UF wins, they go. If Ole Miss wins, Bama goes. It's also possible that Bama could sneak in as a second SEC team with a UF win, but it would require quite a bit of help from the other conferences.

Alright, just making sure you knew that there is a scenario that isn't too crazy which makes it so that even though you win out, you wouldn't be in the playoffs :)

More than anything, I don't see Ole Miss winning out. Saturday's winner is going to Atlanta.

It's nothing but fodder for message boards and talk shows right now.
