I think Cutcliffe wants to start the season out with a bang. We'll have the ball at the 20, run a play action fake and find Meachem on a fly route for about a 50 yard gain

I believe he will run a screen to Foster because Cal will probably send their big guys up front early and often to try and rattle Ainge

I also think itll be a play action...fake to Foster short roll out pass to the TE. Im thinking the TE will be Cottam. Not only is it a fairly safe play to break the ice and get rid of the jitters, but itll give us a good look at how their gonna agressively key on Foster running the ball.

Play action is set up by a strong running game so it wont be the first play
a fake mabie. coach cut has been trimming the linemen down so i look
for a pitch either to the right or left depending on the spot of the ball.

also coach cut dosent just call plays he baits the defence with
passes out to the flat and a long one or two downfield 30-35 yards
or so this spreads the defense out. the past 4 or 5 years we have
faced alot of 8 and 9 man fronts so look for alot of screens and passes
to chris brown and cory anderson to get those guys out of the box.

The very first play will be a screen pass to Foster. In fact the first three plays are going to be screen passes, ala, Notre Dame against Tennessee last year.

Cut will want to slow down Cals rush from their ends and their linebackers. Fourth play will be a run and the fifth and final play of the drive will be for a touchdown on a post.

A run over the tackles--to test the opposing line strength. CPF almost always does this.

How exactly would throwing to the TE and FB get people OUT of the box?

My point is - FB and TE's usually get covered by LBs who are going to be in the box anyway.

Return for a TD. And then our special teams stop sucking for the first time in years.

yes
Lucas Taylor
if he can catch the kick then there's always potential for a big return?

I say it will be a false start on Tennessee. Oh wait, Sanders isn't coaching the offense. Nevermind.

Since Cut is the coach then it's hard to say what he will run b/c he's NOT predictable.

If I had to say though it would be a rollout pass to Meachem for about 10 yards.

they crowed the line to stop the run 8-9 man fronts when you swing anderson out and throw
him the ball behind a wall of blockers then you cut brown behind their front a few plays later

you get the msg??

I think that aspect alone will help our offense. I hope our days of draw play on 3rd and long are done. I HATE that play. Not because it doesn't work, but because everyone knows that there's an 80% chance that we'll run it. That play on 3rd and long only works if you don't do it all the time.

Now if their trying to set up a punt, that's another thing but that's just giving up if you ask me.

I'm thinking that the two early priorities will be: 1) establish dominance at the line and ability to run the ball, and 2) allow Ainge to get comfortable and find a little rhythm. I also seriously doubt that we'll try anything risky early on.

That being said, I'd look for either a "traditional" run, maybe off-tackle, or a quick-hitting pass -- say, 3 step drop, short WR in.
