they crowed the line to stop the run 8-9 man fronts when you swing anderson out and throw
him the ball behind a wall of blockers then you cut brown behind their front a few plays later
you get the msg??

This makes no sense, so no, we didn't "get the msg"

Yeah, I got the message . . . and I still have the same question. Screens, swings, Draws and quick hitters to the TE are a good way to negate the speed of the opposing defense and maybe slow down an upfield pass rush, but IMO you can't beat 8 man fronts with that stuff. If that were the case, Rick Clausen would have been a finalist for the Heisman Trophy last year. If there are 8 already in the box, I don't see how any of that stuff is going to make the opposing defense suddenly respect the pass and start playing Cover 2.

option right...pitch to foster
It allows us to use our speed on the line from the beginning. Cal is probably going to play man and expect either the bomb (which we did cut's last year I think) or a run up the middle. I think with Cut trimming down the line that he's going to try and use their speed from the very beginning.

If we see Ainge come out from under center and sprint out on an option, we'll definitely know that there have been some wrinkles installed.

I'm all for wrinkles that are properly installed. :cross:

I say we punt on first down in order to get our best unit out on the field...only kidding. Holbert up the middle on a draw.

That could be it. If they want to get Ainge going, it's probably not going to be with 60 yard pass down the sideline.

Welcome to the board. :wavey:

I agree, Cut will want a confidence builder for Ainge. Putting the ball 60 yards down the field would be a confidence builder also if it worked but not for the right team if it was picked off.

I really expect the first play to put Foster off Tackle were ever Sears is positioned. If we establish the running game early, Cal will have to put 7-9 in the box and then it will Katie Bar the Door with our Wide Outs running wide open.

I would love a long pass... for a TD (remember the 1st offensive play of the a few years back in the opener against Syracuse?)

Although I don't think that will happen I'm think some kind or short pass with a 3 step drop and a 5-7 yd. route by the receiver... I'll say Meachem

I think Cutcliffe wants to start the season out with a bang. We'll have the ball at the 20, run a play action fake and find Meachem on a fly route for about a 50 yard gain

Looks like sickemsmokey called it perfect to a T!
