Five-star SG Anfernee Simons visiting this weekend

Tony Harris was the quickest I ever went against in bball, back in the day. Curious of peoples thought on this comparison.

Tony Harris (in his prime)
vs
Jordan Bone (potential)

In a vacuum, Tony. Their per-40 stats are closer than I thought they'd be, and Bone is maybe a better fit on this current team.

As I recall, Tony Harris was really good as a Freshman. He seemed to regress a bit, and seemed to have a bit of an attitude problem from his second year and beyond.

I'm hoping and expecting that Bone's career goes in the opposite direction. I'm not saying Harris was a bad player. He just didn't live up to my expectations.

Edit: I went back and looked. I did not remember him having that good of a Junior season, or that he scored that many points. Yes, it would be great if Bone had one season like any of Tony Harris' seasons. I'm guessing that won't happen, on a more balanced team.

Harris's best year was his junior season, and he probably should have gone pro. He really regressed as a senior (partly due to injury) and never made it in the NBA.

The difference is that Jerry Green recruited and didn’t coach.

Tony Harris was miles better than Jordan Bone.

By his own admission, if Tony had been more focused on being a better basketball player than he was his street cred, he'd have had a more successful, memorable career.

The night I watched him run off the bench to fight UK players at their bench when he was sitting out with a supposed ankle injury so severe that he could barely walk, I lost most all respect for him.

Give me Tyler Harris . The kid can get buckets whenever he wants

I may be putting words in your mouth, but are you saying you'd take Harris today versus waiting on Simons and missing out?

If so, I'd offer this alternate line of thinking. Tennessee is in an enviable position. They return all but one guy next year. Simons is a difference maker next year, whereas Harris probably needs to get stronger and take time to develop. He wouldn't likely be counted on to make an immediate impact. With that in mind, I think Tennessee can afford to wait on Simons, even if that comes at the expense of losing Harris. We aren't going to play 13 deep, so unless the one guy they bring in is an immediate difference maker, any addition next year is probably negligible.

He was a bit of a punk. Would love to have seen him with Pearl, Barnes or even Zo.

For me there are two questions that need to be answered before knowing what is best.

1) can darrington replace Daniels minutes better than Harris

2) are we in good shape with a better option than harris in rhe 19 class.

If the answer is yes to both then all in on Simons. If not then take Harris now imo

agreed

My issue with this class and why I’m so for Harris is that unless you are recruiting Top 35 ranked guys most players ideally need a year or two to develop, especially if you are taking the model of the 3* guys like we have been. I have long contended that model will work if you don’t have major attrition and those guys can develop, and we are seeing the results this year imo. However you’ve got sophomore and juniors as your major contributors, so to eliminate a drop off when those guys leave you need to have their replacements developing behind them. Right now the 2017 class has Kent, Pons and Walker...the 2018 class has nobody, and even if you add Simons he’s unlikely to be here more than 1 year so long term there’s still nobody in that class. Imo to continue to have 20+ win seasons and continuity you need balance, redshirting Kent would help with that as he would effectively be part of the 2018 class, but I would still like to see 3-4 guys part of every single class, imo that’s the surest way to avoid that drop off.

1. I would bet no
2. Why would that matter? We have more than one scholarship in 2019 and Harris would be the highest rated signee in the Barnes era. Hard to take for granted we'd land anyone better than Harris rankings wise.

If it looks like Simons will go to the draft , I’m putting all the marbles on Harris . The kid can fill it up from anywhere , he would make a good impact here his first season imo .

Most seem to think Simons is leaning towards college for a year

CRB and staff need to pull out all the stops to get Harris. He would be a great replacement for Daniel next year. Can’t wait on Simons and miss Harris IMO

Sign Harris. Continue recruiting Simons. Make room.

If Simons truly plans to wait until May/June I agree...someone is almost certain to transfer out after the season in late March/Early April. If Simons has said he’s going to decide in late March then it gets tricky.

If that’s the case then Barnes needs to put out all the stops to land Harris.

Waiting on Simons to decide could hurt with Harris.

If what’s the case? I presented 2 different scenarios?

Simons wanting to wait till May/June to decide.

Putting all your eggs into one basket could backfire on us.

I think Harris could be a big contributor just as much as Simons.

Is it worth waiting on Simons while there’s other prospects out there? That’s all I’m saying.

Yes, it’s worth waiting
