It would suck to see him transfer because he has heart and tries to do the best with what he has.
But I do see where youre coming from.
Id love to see him have a breakout season.
If it doesnt work out here, then his best bet would be to transfer.
Fulkerson would be a bad ass at Walters State.
I was thinking more like Kings College. Poor guy is afraid to shoot the ball and other teams don't have to guard him. I cringe every time he falls on the floor. It's like watching Glass Joe get hit by Mike Tyson. He at least hustles and I give him credit for trying to get back in shape.
With all the negative talk on Fulkerson, I was beginning to think that I had just imagined it. So, I went back and looked on UTSports.com. Below are the highlights of his Freshman season:
Game-By-Game Statistics
Appeared in each of UT's first 10 games, but suffered a dislocated right elbow and fractured right wrist against Lipscomb (12/15), which sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Averaged 4.7 points and 4.6 rebounds in 16.0 minutes per game while shooting a team-best .567 from the field.
Was a part of the highest-scoring freshman class in program history (1,140 points).
Solid outing at No. 7 North Carolina (12/11): scored eight points on 4-of-4 shooting with four rebounds and a team-high two steals.
Scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a win over Georgia Tech (12/3).
Made his first career start in the Maui Invitational finale against Chaminade, posting eight points and eight rebounds.
Turned in an impressive performance against No. 13 Oregon, logging his first career double-double with 12 points, a game-high 10 rebounds, five blocks, two steals and two assists in 37 minutes of work.
Made his collegiate debut in the Vols' opener vs. Chattanooga (11/11/16), pulling down a pair of rebounds in eight minutes off the bench.
Not bad for a Freshman in his first 10 games.
No one is arguing about whether he had a good freshman season or not, though. Just that he is really struggling to regain any semblance of that again, and it would seem his time away from the court has allowed guys like Kyle Alexander and Derrick Walker to lap him in development. Without major improvement, one can only imagine that pattern may continue unless he does the things that have been mentioned in this thread to improve his game. It's not like he came in as a heralded All-American to begin with. He started off behind the 8-ball from a strength and offensive skill standpoint, but our perceived lack of talent and experience in the post gave him a shot to contribute early. A year later, we certainly have more experience, and it would appear more talent, as well, than originally believed.
His sever injury required an abnormal recovery which was also very lengthly. He was unable to rehab for a long long time and was unable to regain strength and flexibility. I think we will see a different player when he completes off season workouts this Spring and Summer. With our like of size on the roaster, he will likely contribute a lot more to the team in the future.
Yeah, but again, Alexander is in his 5th year of organized basketball. His ceiling was always higher than most realized. Fulk may have similar untapped potential, but his injuries have really hampered him. KA never dealt with that and has also done the work in the weight room to get stronger, add muscle/weight.
I'm not calling Fulk a lost cause. I just think he's falling more behind than he is catching up.
