'20 FL Gerald Mincey (UF Transfer)

We have up to 25 initial counters we can use if we have that much room under the 85. Right now it has been reported that we have 67 guys that COULD return. Do the math. That btw did not include Cade returning which MAY be up in the air. There will be guys on that list that will not return, but how many is probably not a known by the staff yet. So, every schollie is a precious commodity so you better be sure before you accept what appears to be a surprise commitment or the never erring and very versatile mental midgets on our websites will give you hell for running off a guy late in the process. If I had to guess I would think they may give him a very conditional slot, maybe even based on having enough room to complete the 25 and adding him with one of those new portal replacement slots. But we have to have room and we have to have a qualifying completed transfer. You don't get an opening just by running a guy off or him quitting ot going on a medical for obvious reasons. Purges are not rewarded with these replacements. On the other hand he may check out and they go whole hog. TBD.
So if the 67 return we can only sign 18? I thought we could replace up to 7 of our transfers but I guess not.

Don't super seniors mess with that 85 now? SO kids working on that extra year they wouldn't normally have had don't count against the 85 right?
I am not sure. I thought we got to replace up to 7 of our transfers that did not count which would give us 32 scholarships but if they count against the 85 limit then we could only sign 18 which is where we are now.

Correct. Carvin, for example, doesn’t count against the 85. I don’t think the 85 number will be an issue.

Also, they have until August to get down to 85. Some guys will leave before then. You sign your max allotted and let it play out.

Just feels like this kid may not end up here, after hopes have gotten up.

Hope im wrong.
If he does not, it means we told him that he does not have a committable offer, which would hopefully mean that we have some others out there that we want more. Can't imagine he would "decommit" but who knows?

So more than likely they will sign 32 and work it out in the spring?

I'm not a part of that website, why were people giving him **** about it? Seems like it was a weird situation and they gave what little info they had?
Eh, he brings some of it on himself. All that Pruitt slurping he did left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. He definitely gets legit information, but he does have something of an attitude, IMO.

Can't even use all 25 initial counters if you don't have room. The transfer replacements have to be this years, not last and they have to end up at a D1 school IF IF IF my understanding is correct. I have been going around for months thinking we would have plentry of room under the 85 after all the noise made about our 30 portal losses, but some ot that was offset by everybody getting a covid year for free and sticking around to skew the math. Still you would think 85-30 would do the trick.. just not so. I am betting we have no problem getting down to the 60 with medicals, guys getting out on their own and probably some guys being asked to move on, hopefully some after we paid for 4 years of school, covid year or not. We shall see.

I think "pause" might be better. Then you can rewind or replay as needed.

A few times now I've seen numbers similar to the 67 number seen here. Does this number include the "super seniors"? I'm a little confused if we had 70 scholarship players which is what we heard all season then surely we had more than 3 seniors this year and for any true seniors coming back for the covid year they don't count against the 85 correct?

I’ve been told “super seniors” those who are out of eligibility except for the Covid exception, don’t apply to the 85 limit

You’re way underrating Cooper for reasons mentioned above but to add:

Center is the most intelligent position on the line. Cooper is a smart kid and ran that offense better than anyone else, and quicker.

Look at his performance against the MUCH larger Jordyn Davis. Held his own, and will only get stronger next year. Again, smart player, who understands leverage.

Carvin and Spraggins are pure maulers, apples to oranges comparison.

Cooper needs to stay healthy. When healthy, he was hands down the best center, not even a close 2nd

Agree completely.

Spraggins is a mauler - see Trey Smith. Could Trey place center well? Intellectually - yes. Physically - no. Spraggins is a no on both.

Carvin is versatile and a great back-up at center. Will help his NFL value and he will probably have a long, successful career - as a G. He has been adequate at C, not good.

Coop is young, inexperienced and was hurt last season. But that gets forgotten when building a narrative. He will get healthy, bigger and stronger. You always put your most cerebral, mobile, good snapping O-lineman at C. That's Coop. He fits this system and it needs that. Counters, traps, screen action, etc. all fit a mobile C.

I count 59 returning. That counts 2 kickers (Carver and Wilson), the walk-on Garland (assuming he was put on scholarship), and Dayne Davis. Also includes Hooker and Tillman returning, but not Mays.

That leaves room for 26. And some others will leave before August.

My understanding is that this was the only year super seniors did not count against your 85, since you could not make adjustments to your signing class. So those guys could actually use the free year and not be run off. This year you can. I am guessing if we are having trouble with our portal losses LOTS of schools are in the same boat. It will a few more years before not counting last year does not extend some guys windows from 5 to 6 years if they also have a normal redshirt year. My brilliant mind had not allowed for this. I am once again guessing non productive redshirt juniors athletically with four years of school payed for will be moved on.
