FL LB DeMario Tolan (LSU commit)

“First of all, it was a great game, great atmosphere. That was my first time getting to witness all of it, and it was just amazing,” said Tolan, who’s ranked the No. 193 overall prospect and No. 20 linebacker in the 2022 class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

“And then, after seeing how the defense and the offense flows and how it’s growing, it feels like it’d be a great fit for me, if everything turns out bad at LSU and it’s not a good fit anymore for me over there.

“It really, really helped them a lot and pushed them up there high.”

“Game day was a very great experience, because I only know about Miami’s game day and Georgia’s game day, and they blew those game days out of the water,” he said. “It was just a great game-day experience.”

“I feel like they’re on the right track,” he said. “Whenever I watched the game, all I really saw was mental mistakes and personnel mistakes. It really wasn’t big mistakes that caused them to lose the game. That was really it. I feel like, if I come and fill some of those roles, I could change a lot the defense is doing.”

“That’s what I was watching throughout the whole game,” Tolan said. “One thing I saw was how they would, whenever they wanted to play man, they would move out a linebacker and play man. And sometimes they would struggle to guard them man-on-man, and I feel like I’m that versatile that I can guard them with anybody out there.”

“It’s SEC football, and the coaching staff is just a great coaching staff,” Tolan said. “They have probably the best coaching staff in college football.”

Need Tolan!

Better than any LB on Vols roster
Y’all need to relax lol

Obviously Tolan is good and will be a good college player with development but unless a LB is among the elite and already hitting 230-240 he’s not a day 1 starter in the SEC. if every good LB out of HS was ready to play day 1 Willis and Mohan would be starting. LB is a developmental position just like the line of scrimmage.. 99.9% of them need 2-3 years to adjust to the college game.

By no means is he a plug and play all-american, but he’s got more upside than what is Knoxville right now. At least my opinion.

Reactions: berryvol and Patmo
"I saw sometimes they were going man coverage, and the linebackers would have to go guard the slot receivers and running backs," Tolan continued. "I feel like I could lock up those players. When it was running plays, I saw linebackers filling wrong gaps or just overrunning. I feel like I could fill that position better than they could."

Seems like is already better at breaking down film than our current LBs as well. We need him.
