I lean this way. Undersized linemen are always a risk. You're trusting they can bulk up. Add to that he's never played the position we've recruited him to play. I'm not saying he won't work out. I really hope he does. But it would be foolish to ignore obvious shortcomings IMO.
In the not too distant past, we recruited a number of smaller-quicker Dlinemen who became very good Olinemen. It worked very well 20 years ago, especially when you had good Oline coaches

All I’m saying is Butch Jones loved getting OTs that had to gain 40-50lbs to play in the SEC. Almost none of them panned out.

Pruitt came and we started signing SEC sized OTs and we all rejoiced about how signing guys who had to transform their bodies was over.

So you’ll have to excuse me if I’ve got reservations about this. I don’t know his weight other than what is listed on 247. It sounds like he’s light AND raw. Definitely a project.

I’m all about trusting Heupel and I think we have a top of the light OL coach. But I can’t blind homer boom all considered.

But we're ok if he turns into a TE?

I don't mind a project or two. He's got length and is athletic enough to play basketball.

I rankings aren't everything but I'm ready to start booming with some players to actually get excited about.

Kid may end up highly rated but I want that initial satisfaction.

lol at the talent evaluators on here. Funny stuff. Like you know anything about this kid. You never heard of him before today. But the staff did and like what they see. I'll trust them until proven wrong.

This kid could get to 310-315 possibly. I have no problem with the pickup, seems to move well with plenty of frame to grow into. If he takes to coaching he could be a good one down the road. GBO!!!!!

There’s nothing wrong with questioning taking a commitment from an undersized, unranked, raw kid who has a very mediocre offer list.

I mean - if you want to be a blind homer then so be it.

I am all aboard the Heup train and I think the staff is proven developers. But they haven’t earned a ‘carpe Blanche without being questioned’ status.

I’ve liked every commitment we’ve had thus far - but this one appears questionable.

I can understand this reasoning. But we do have a much better S&C program than we did with the Butch regime (that’s not saying much granted we barely had an S&C program then)

IMO..... they have a plan for what they want their offensive linemen to look..... feet and mobility is most preferable to them.... They have stated they prefer lineman in the 270-280 that they feel can add more weight..... he checks that box at 273..... they also have stated that they like taking defensive lineman and making them offensive lineman due to the fact the better athletes are on that side of the ball.... he checks that box as well.....As far as rankings goes..... I feel this is the best year for the situation we are in..... There are going to be so many guys missed and ranked incorrectly due to covid...

That being said it doesn’t mean this is a good take but it seems they have a set criteria they look at and follow it.

Pruitt was in the complete other camp, which most recent research says is very wrong. It's just that Pruitt was used to seeing similar sized guys that were also 5* FREAKS at Bama, very much just anomalies of dudes.

Recent research I've seen (pretty dang exhaustive research out there) suggests you want ol recruits that:
- need to gain good weight once on campus, not OL that need to cut bad weight.
- played multiple sports. It's unlikely 350 lb high schoolers will be able to do anything but football and specialization is detrimental.

Those HUGE OL also tend to be a bit harder to gauge/overvalued, because they simply dominate their HS out of sheer size, not necessarily skill, footwork, etc.

A UCF player for sure.

A fine project but can't expect to win anything in the SEC with a class full of these guys.
To be fair (taken from elsewhere):

"Consider that Heupel and staff had nothing but 3 stars and even 2 stars at UCF and he had 6 players drafted this year.
I say we let him do his thing and judge the result in a few years. Cause good OR bad..we don't have a clue right now."

6 players drafted...not sure when we last did that. 2016? Either way the NFL dgaf where you played in college, SEC or AAC. I'll take 6 NFL draftees every year and with Heupel's offense, we'd certainly win with that.
