‘23 FL OT Francis Mauigoa (Miami commit)

It’s the same as Nico, he signed with Spyre, they’re not attached to UT, (wink wink nudge nudge) but we all know if he decided to stay in Cali and play for USC Spyre would not be marketing him.

He signed with Ruiz’s company, which stipulates he do certain things related to Ruiz’s company to get paid, and if he doesn’t, he makes no money. Ruiz will not make those options available if he leaves, but like Nico, if he’s made money already, it’s his regardless of what he does.

In hindsight, I’m not sure how your post differentiated from my response to the other poster. Maybe you were agreeing and I missed it.

But the post I responded to suggested that Ruiz could hold him to the deal if he left Miami or switched schools. Ruiz isn’t going to do that. If FM switches, Ruiz just won’t pay him and will move on to the next one.

I think these NIL contracts are going to end up not being worth the paper they are printed on, at least for the schools. A kid can sign his rights away and be told they cannot change their mind, but who is going to hold them to this if they do change their mind. First of all, it would be a pr nightmare for the collective and the school if they force a kid to stay after he decides to move on, and I am sure the NCAA would love to hear what a disgruntled player has to say about how his deal was struck. Especially in this case where ruiz is involved. I am betting they would love to nail him on something. I think it would just be good business that if a kid changes his mind, you just let him go

Why wouldn’t he be able to sign with another NIL if they are giving him work to earn money. Similar to an independent contractor wouldn’t he be able to use his NIL for multiple companies? Maybe I’m not fully understanding NIL.

Francis and other Miami recruits watching Miami lose to Duke. Not looking like a good time, lol.

Do we know thathe's already signed a NIL? Or is that an assumption being bandied about?
I don't think Florida allows high schoolers to sign NIL deals. My guess is he has an agreed upon deal with Ruiz, but he can't sign anything until he enrolls. I know California allows high schoolers to sign NIL deals, but most states do not. At least that's my understanding.

ugh. the only thing Miami has going for it is that it's in Miami. other than that, it might as well be wake forest. that looks awful. cristobal is a great recruiter. and he's gonna have to be, because that's just not a great look, on or off the field.

I get that but man if I’m a college athlete I’m taking a small pay cut to go play somewhere I can win games and have a great gameday experience
He's been promised life changing money. Not sure how much we were "outbid" by, but rumor was it was by quite a bit. The kid is looking to better his family's circumstances.

But you never know. The possibility he changes his mind still exists. The ultimate goal is the NFL, and it's possible he could come to believe there's a better path to get there.

You could hoe yourself out for a cool million to an chronically unbathed meth skank, or you could date a super model for $500,000 (with the probability of millions to follow after that).

Shrug...
