‘23 FL OT Lucas Simmons (FSU commit)

Sunbelt Billy gonna coach ‘em up……..
Nothing he has done this year has been impressive…. He went 1-3 against the four good teams on the schedule and got lucky having all summer to prepare for Utah. Lost to uk which was embarrassing. Beat a bunch of bad teams…
He’s not bitch 2.0, Beamer holds that title…. But he could be Pruitt 2.0. Both are bald headed special talented coaches we’ll say.
There's a very real possibility UF finishes the season 9-4. Not exactly a huge accomplishment as I think Mullen left him a good situation but they're definitely headed in the right direction.

He's on pace to have a similar year 1 to what Heupel had last year, with very similar results. Beat the teams your supposed to beat, lose to everyone else.
Not earth shattering, but not "Sunbelt Billy" or trash either.
My primary concern is UT getting better and staying ahead of UF no matter what they do. I'm not "comfortable" with their apparent recruiting success. However I don't think his first year is very comparable to Heupel's. He started with more talent. Even with some transfers out... he started with more talent.

However he also started with a QB thought to be a 1st round NFL talent. He started with what our resident Gator fans claimed was the best WR group in the SEC. He has not found a way to have a consistent, credible passing threat. There are reasons a 1st year coach might not do well relating to culture, system, et al so we shouldn't write him off. But I would say Heupel did considerably better with the situation he inherited than Napier has.

Too early to say either way. Mullen started out 10-3 followed by 11-2 with the world convinced he would win championships at UF. Three years later he's a commentator on TV and one of the most hated guys in Florida.

Napier makes 7 million. His record is definitely trash considering his salary.
They’ve made improvements throughout his first year. He’s a good coach. Not looking forward to playing them next year.
Drop the Sun Belt Billy nickname. He almost beat us by taking big risks. So, I’ve dubbed him “Billy Big Balls”

I'm not suggesting his success is sustainable. I mean, it'll be very unlikely they find a QB as talented as AR and they're not exactly maximizing his potential. Most of their main contributors produced a lot last year outside Ettiene.

I'm not seeing any real signs of development out of the guys who weren't playing a lot the year prior like Heupel came in and did.

What has he done that’s so special
He beat a team he had 4 months to plan for

They have talent and speed also, more then we do
I have NEVER said he is special, just that he is not trash. Utah also had 4 months to prepare for Florida, so that preperation time thing doesn't matter a whole lot.
He may not be special, but his first year is very similar to Heupel and Napier is recruiting quite well.

He might get us once but he will never beat UGA
He’s starting out next year with 2 losses(UGA/LSU) and we can beat them, play at uk and Utah. 3 or 4 losses next year and his seat will be hot

I'll take Doofus over cornbread. At least Doofus was entertaining.
Yeah he entertainingly managed to alienate alumni and damn near every high school staff he happened to bump into. Also fractured the lockerroom mighty nicely as well with his handling of DR. Pruitt sucked no doubt but Dools had him beat.

So if he finishes 7-5 or 8-4 with players left by Dan "we'll talk about recruiting during recruiting season" Mullen, you think that is trash? You're expectations in year 1 are ridiculous.

UFs recruiting classes under Mullen:

2019-9th
2020- 9th
2021- 12th

That’s an average of 10th. Mullen didn’t leave the cupboard bear. Nor did he have tons of transfers. Plus sunbelt Billy came in as a hot name and a proven coach. In 2022, according to 247, UF had the 12th most talented roster in the nation. So yes, given all that, he is trash.

I agree
I don’t see the sudden stardom everyone else see in sunbelt billy
It like vol fans want him to be good also, they argue in his favor quite often
If he was our coach this year we lose to bama, Pitt, UGA, lsu, and don’t score like we currently are

So the only options are "stardom" and "trash". Forgive me for thinking he is probably somewhere in the middle.
Nowhere near the play caller that Dan Mullen is, but much better recruiter. What that translates to is still to be determined.
