Why do we need to be "more successful in state?" While it's great to pull in state kids, you can find talent anywhere. How about we focus on bringing in highly talented kids, regardless what state they are from?
Because that’s how you build an overall successful class because you can only win so many out of state battles in the condition our program is. If you added say 6 TN blue chip prospects to this current class it would be elite. Without them it’s just ok.

The condition our program is in contributed to not winning many of the in-state players this year. A new coaching staff that did not have existing relationships with the high schools, players and coaches in the state is also a problem. The ‘23 class should have better results with in-state players.

Between the growth and influx of out-of-state folks in the Nashville area and IT sucking for 15 years, there isn’t much state loyalty. Recruiting in-state top prospects isn’t all that different than recruiting out-of-state.

Also, JMO, a lot of TN top talent tends to be pretty soft.

It’s that way everywhere. We live in a transient society. Not just Tennessee, but everywhere. Centers of population produce more talent. They’re also full of transients. I’ve been telling y’all for years….instate talent isn’t the advantage many of y’all think it is. Look at the best players in Florida and see how many are going to UF/Miami/FSU.

Wrestlers usually have to cut weight to hit a certain number. So it's pretty easy to imagine this kid packing on the pounds in a hurry once he's allowed to.

Because it’s supposed to be easy to get in state players you “look bad” if you don’t. Meaningless perception. Get the best players you can that want to be a Volunteer.

Not anymore. A body fat test pre-season give you a floor weight class, can’t go below that… at least that’s how it is in the states where I wrestled (PA & OH). The days of cutting a bunch of weight after football season are basically over.

Dang, we just had hydration tests and if you failed you were out for a week.
