It is simple....at least my explanation is. In 2001 UT arguably had the most talented roster in history. It's pretty simple and already been stated... the one time the game was played after November 1st .... Tennessee won. It would be nice to have a larger sample size to see if there is a correlation.
I don't understand why every SEC season schedule has to look the same. Why not mix things up a little? For decades, Tennessee's schedule was unfairly top heavy... but then too soft in November. That is at least starting to change.
Two all pro NFL tackles.
Two receivers that made NFL rosters, one with a long career
TE that made hall of fame
Linebacker that started for Dallas
DB that started in NFL for better part of a decade.
Most other years UF simply had better players and coaches. Some years we choked. None of that had anything to do with calendar voodoo.
In 07-08 the combined scores were 89-26. The last 4 years it's been 150-57. Not sure November would have helped us those years.
Let's look at the year after the "magical" 2001 win. Before UF we played Wyoming and MTSU. We played Rutgers right after. Doesn't seem like that's enough of a murders row to make us lose to UF by 17 points.
In fact, the last time we beat UF, we lost to Vanderbilt in November.
Next year we play Ball St, a Pitt team that losing two dozen seniors and Akron before the UF game. If that's unfairly front loaded then just cancel the UF series. The game is scheduled for 9/24. Be ready or don't, just don't blame the date.
