Florida Gators Recruiting Class

Campbell's CB's have been trending FSU, I know Ivey's were trending AU for a little bit.

Cowart and CeCe are locks.

It'll be a good class.

Nothing new... FL started out slow almost at the same pace last year at this time with recruiting. Even lost cook and lane to FSU mid season and both were 5 star recruits. In the end after a 4-8 season, FL still signed a top 10 class.

I do agree that it will be a big influence on recruiting how FL does on the field.

The recruits must be reading Volnation... Lol. FL just got a commitment from an OL out of GA. Had offers from Bama, FSU, SC, and other teams.

JoshNewberg states....

I've spoke to a few sources in Tampa over the last 7-10 days and at this point I do not expect Ray-Ray McCloud III to sign with Clemson.
Based on recent conversations, I feel McCloud will sign with either UF or UCLA. McCloud committed to Clemson last month, but was rushed into a decision because agreed to do it on live TV on a certain date.
A lot will ride on UF's season and how the offense comes together under Kurt Roper. I've also been told that if McCloud does indeed flip to UF then there is a good chance Deon Cain comes with him. I do not believe that would be the case if he chose UCLA.

Look at the number of decommits nationwide and particularly in the SEC overall. I think that's the new normal. We shall see how the recruiting landscape looks on signing day.

Just a couple things: If Lawrence Wright was just trying to appease Vol fans with his posts he wouldn't have picked the handle "Lawrence Wright"....Everybody remembers the Joey Kent hit so it's an obvious dig...AFL2008 is right with most of what he says but seems to have a surprising amount of confidence in Kurt Roper. He has been nothing more than a clipboard holder for Cutcliffe and Florida's problems hiring OC's has reached epic proportions but you will still recruit well though just because of where you are. Finally, I like HialeahGator he is one of the best rivals on here and has first rate and interesting info.

 He was calling the plays down from the pressbox since 2002 when they were at Ole Miss, after being the QB coach from '99 through '01. OM won the West along with eventual NC LSU in 2003, and of course LSU got to go to the SECG due to their head-to-head 17-14 win over OM.

But I understand what you're saying; he couldn't possibly have learned anything from Cut all these years, and must not have done a good job... otherwise Cut would have brought him along to his other coaching stops at UT and Duke. :whistling:

The same Duke that went 10-4 last year with a collection of players neither UT nor UF would even recruit, and won their division for the 1st time since there have been divisions... their first title of any kind since their 1989 ACC title when some dude named Spurrier coached there. They got hammered by the NC's, but ended up only losing by 4 to TAMU and Johnny in the bowl game.

Should at least be interesting to watch him work with the kind of players UF can provide.

He could be decent. Though, I never thought Sanders was Cutcliffe.

I believe he's more than a clipboard holder but I also believe Cut had a major hand in the offensive play calling and had final say so. Similar to the Smart-Saban situation. We'll likely know over the next year or two and eventually we'll see how Kirby Smart stands on his own.

Just remember Pease was with the Boise program for the better part of a decade and we saw how that turned out for UF and how little his departure hurt Boise. It was always Petersen's offense, no matter who held the title of OC.

Brent Pease only called plays at Boise as OC for 1 season and that was with with a great college QB and Doug Martin at running back. Hard to screw that up, especially with their less than stellar competition.

Kurt Roper essentially installed the offensive system Duke runs. This is not the Cutcliffe offense from UT or Ole Miss. The philosophy and tempo of what Duke does offensively comes from what Roper and Joker Phillips started to implement when they worked together at Kentucky.

Well, just like every offense I've ever heard of, all the offensive coaches get together and make up a game plan with the calls they intend to use for the specific opponent during the week; and then somebody surveys from the press box and calls the plays down... no different with Cut and Roper, and Roper has been that guy since 2002.

A quote from Cut during an interview while at Ole Miss...

Head Coach David Cutcliffe Holds Preseason Press Conference
Rebel leader talks about upcoming season with media members.

Q: Much was talked about how effective Eli was at changing plays at the line of scrimmage. How much will the offensive play calling change with a new quarterback?

A: We won't change our philosophy. Our offensive philosophy is to try and train the quarterback to put us in the best possible play he can put us in. Micheal has been in the same system Eli was. When you are a first-year starter you are not quite as comfortable with all the different realms that Eli was given, but we'll be similar. We try to teach them everything we know and they're the functional part. If they know everything they're supposed to know, they should know more than the coach. That's the challenge with a new quarterback.

Q: Who's all involved in that process?

A: Kurt Roper has the responsibility of calling the play itself. The entire offensive staff develops game plans. Kurt starts the process from the pressbox by signaling the play down to the field. Then coach Woods and the quarterback have options based on what is signaled.

So, we've established Roper is more than a clipboard holder.

What a relief that is for Gator fans.

Shocker.... I thought it was true that coach Cutt called all the plays because I have read it on here several times.... :p

You mean Roper wasn't the ball boy..... :dance2:

Interesting that people are getting themselves excited about any part of this sentence

if we pull byron cowart on the 28th as expected things will heat up real quick

cowart, cece, holley, & willis could all be rushing the passer at the same time :eek:hmy:

you see that duke/a&m bowl game? that kind of play calling and offensive execution would get any fla fans excited

Oh, I saw the bowl game. But the sentence was about the Kentucky offense that got Joker fired.

My buddy is a huge Florida fan - he insists that every Florida fan he knows is ready to move on from Muschamp. They see this season as a win/win-either they have a great season and keep Muschamp, or they get a new flavor next year.

He seems to think anything less than a 9-win season will show Muschamp the door, which seems really ridiculous.... but I suppose that's where we were a decade ago...

That excitement gets tempered pretty quick when you consider Brentwood Academy could score 30 points on Texas A&M's defense the last two seasons.

not really it was a kick ass gameplan and roper got his boys to execute perfectly in one of their biggest games in forever basically lol they came out ready like i havent seen a fla offense in yrs scoring 5 TD's on the first 5 drives my excitement from that game remains very high!

obviously im very high on roper and your not we'll find out who was right soon enough i think you'll be pleasantly surprised

Roper lighting up an unmotivated, below average TAMU defense playing in a meaningless bowl game isn't enough to get me excited about our offense.

I'm in wait and see mode with this UF squad.
