Florida on the way down...

OP says Gators fans are "worked up" yet I'd say the fact this thread keeps getting made shows that apparently some Vol fans need to keep repeating it to themselves to hope it comes true.

And also, maybe we should try beating them for once.

The OP needs to look no further than last year's result to invalidate his post. I think he's probably in school about right now. Maybe when that last bell rings he can show up and defend himself.

Do not count me as one of them. I will give sir Lawrence his credibility earned. He goes way back. As do I, regardless of the propensity to resist uncontrolled posting. Stay in your league.

I do not want to be in his league, group, bunch or whatever. I'm a Vol fan. He is a gator. I'll stay in my league. As far as the post, it's an espn analyst's article. It speaks for itself. Some, like Lawrence, tried to turn the thread into a personal attack on me. I was just putting him in his place. I accepted the concession that he had read the article the wrong way, etc on one of the earlier posts.

On a different note: could someone please explain the article to Cherokeechief. It's about recruiting dipshiite. He seems a little confused. I think when he gets that way, he starts on the attack as well. I think maybe the opinion page on the magazine "cat fancy" is more his speed.

Nice try...I didn't "read the article the wrong way". I took exception to your thread title.

Go check out post #45 of this thread...a little reading comprehension goes a long way.

If you think Florida is headed down and Tennessee is headed up, there's enough ammunition out there suggesting UT remains down. Uncertainty at the QB position, green linemen everywhere, very small percentage of lettermen returning, barely average defense, and so on.

That ESPN article may have "spoken for itself", but you pulled the thread title straight out of your ass.

Also, it's common practice to post a link to articles instead of cutting and pasting directly into your post.

Roddo, time to go back to gym class. I'm not a fan of either the Gators or UT. Fair is fair though. It's way too early to write an obituary for the Florida program. The jury is still out on whether or not UT is on the way up. I think your reasoning is optimistic at best and more than likely simply short-sighted.

Gators offense must improve skill positions

It has been nearly a decade since Florida sat at the bottom of the Big Three in its own state, a situation only made worse by watching bitter rival Florida State win the national championship last season.

But even when Florida State outperformed Florida over the last 10 years, the Gators could always count on being better than Miami.

Now, there is not much to count on at all, no guarantees to be made, no automatic Ws on the schedule. Not after Georgia Southern. Not after a miserable losing season. No guarantees for coach Will Muschamp, either, essentially coaching for his job in 2014.

It is easy to see why Florida State has separated. But where both Florida State and Miami have separated from Florida is in their recruitment and development of skill players on offense, an area the Gators once dominated.

Florida has lacked a dynamic playmaker since Percy Harvin in 2008. That is simply unacceptable for a program in a state the produces enough supremely fast and ultra-talented recruits to fill multiple FBS rosters.

So what has happened in recruiting? Let us take a look back at the players all three programs have signed between 2011 -- when Muschamp signed his first class at Florida -- and 2013. During that time, Florida signed 12 ESPN 150 players at either quarterback, running back, receiver or tight end. Six have transferred.

In 2012, when Muschamp brought in the first class he recruited entirely on his own, he stacked his defense with elite recruits. The only two ESPN 150 offensive players in that class outside the offensive line were two tight ends: Colin Thompson and Kent Taylor. They have both left the program.

Now take a look at what Florida State and Miami have done. Since 2011, Florida State has signed eight ESPN 150 players at the same four offensive positions. The Noles have hit on nearly all of them. Karlos Williams, Nick O'Leary, Rashad Greene, Kermit Whitfield and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston are expected to be All-ACC selections or All-Americans. James Wilder Jr. was drafted a few months ago.

Kelvin Benjamin and Devonta Freeman, four-star recruits out of high school, are in the NFL, too.

Miami has signed nine ESPN 150 skill-position players over the same time frame. While the Canes have missed on some, they have hit on several key players who helped them get to nine wins a season ago. Running back Duke Johnson, receivers Stacy Coley and Malcolm Lewis and tight end Standish Dobard are starters. Receiver Phillip Dorsett, a three-star recruit in 2011, is better than anybody Florida has on its roster.

Muschamp has focused his efforts on building a strong defense, something Miami has lacked over the last several years. While the old adage is that defense wins championships, you need a little more than a rusted-out shell of an offense to win games in todayÂ’s era.

That holds true most especially in Florida. Consider the two Gators coaches who have won national championships -- Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer -- were offensive coaches. Each had a quarterback who won the Heisman.

Florida State and Miami have won their championships with terrific skill players -- and Heisman winners -- as well. If we look at what Florida State accomplished last season alone, the Seminoles were stellar on both offense and defense with playmakers at the skill positions all over the field. All three programs have produced equally impressive offensive and defensive players in their championship seasons.

So, it seems, Florida is missing a giant piece to its puzzle.

That is a big reason why the Gators have fallen behind both Miami and Florida State for the first time since 2004. Not even 2004 was as bad as 2013, mind you. Because at least in 2004, Florida beat Florida State and finished above .500.

At that time, Florida was in the middle of the Ron Zook era (or error, depending your point of view), but the down times did not last long. Three years later, Florida won its first national championship under Urban Meyer.

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley is banking on a short-lived dip, a big reason why Muschamp still has his job. Most believe Florida will be better. But how much better? Foley is putting his faith in a man who has shown equal propensity to win big and lose big.

So the objective for Muschamp seems pretty simple. Improve the offense and win. But we are not talking about merely finishing with a winning record, no matter how good 7-5 looks right about now. Florida must once again flex its power in state.

AP poll fun for debate -- and that's it

I usually do copy whole article or give a link, but some of the stuff about Miami and fsu doesn't really interest me. I didn't know so many could not understand the clippings being mainly about florida's recruiting going down, especially in the state of Florida.

I added that our recruiting was on the way up, and that florida's recruiting is headed down. Some evidently, chief and lawrence, didn't understand that either. So here's the whole thing. Please call espn if you want someone to explain it to you. I'm tired of explaining it.

Chief, time to crawl back under your rock. Why even comment on a thread you have clearly not read or understood? Really, is the jury still out on our recruiting? If they are still deliberating, they are morons. It's hard for me to fathom anyone arguing that our recruiting is not on the way up. It is also hard for me to believe, if you read the article, that anyone could think Florida is on the way up in recruiting. I may not be the next Nostradamus, but I do know that so goes the recruiting, so goes your team, eventually.

This must be what some of you are getting out of the article and thread, he said sarcastically.
Roddo518 says, Florida will never win another ball game. Tennessee will win every ball game from here to eternity. No coaching change, divine intervention or any amount of good players will ever change that fact. This will all begin this year. Please posts as many times as you like to argue with me about these one sided predictions. Please include name calling and references to me still being in jr. High school because that will make you look very intelligent and inflate your credibility on this site. Who knows, you might even get to hang out in Lawrence's league.

OP could have saved us all time simply by adding the word "recruiting" to the thread title.

Then we could challenge that argument based on the perceived repercussions. UF's recruiting is down after being up for several years. UT's recruiting is up after being somewhat average for the past several years. You conclude UT needs more up years to catch up with UF, resulting in UT beating UF on the field consistently.

UF falling behind FSU is disappointing, but it's not catastrophic by any stretch. UF out recruited Miami recently yet still lost to them last year. FSU out recruited UF most of the 90s and UF still ran the SEC and won a national title. UT out recruited UF many years during that stretch and we all know how that usually worked out.

That said, the jury is out on Muschamp, and I reserve the right to revisit this discussion after seeing UF's new offense.

The offense will play a big row on FL moving forward and also the recruiting trail. It will not be an easy job to install a new scheme and have the players on the same page in one season. Roper knows that he has this season to pump some life into the FL "O".

That was a good post. I could respond or debate this post without feeling as if I needed to defend my honor or answer to someone calling me out. But this thread is beginning to get old to me. I truly do believe things are going in the right direction for tennessee, and I would not trade our team or our situation for florida's team and their situation. This is my last post on this thread.

All the sports predictors I've listened to say, Florida could win 8-9 or even 10 games this year.. Some called them the dark horse of the sec this year.. hope not..

Yep... Some even said 9-3 last year... The rest of the story. Never can tell and that's why they play the games.

Ya know what else he is? He's your starting TE.

Thoughts?

I think Muschamp is playing mind games with the depth chart.

Our starting tailback is listed as Kelvin Taylor OR Matt Jones OR Mack Brown. Anyone paying attention knows Kelvin Taylor is on a different planet compared to Brown and Jones.

McGee is the starting TE. Burton will be in there on run blocking. I guess UF will run the ball on the first play... :)

Did I miss something? I'm pretty sure Burton was listed as the starter. Also pretty sure I saw a bunch of gators whining about it on Twitter.

No, I'm not. I stated a fact, asked a question and responded to an answer. Message boards strike me as the kind of place where that sort of exchange is welcome. You sound defensive, so I'm just going to say thanks for the response and leave you to your Lifetime movies and Telenovelas.
