That's the problem. With the Gators, no one does. At least no one with ESPN. The Vols on the other hand...
Total BS.
Brandon Spikes got destroyed in the media (and rightfully so) following the eye gouge incident against UGA. Meyer was ripped for initially suspending him for only a half-game (and rightfully so). Both the incidents and the aftermath were top stories on SportsCenter and they both made the line-up on PTI.
Meyer was also criticized for playing Tebow at LSU only two weeks following his concussion at Kentucky.
Meanwhile no one bothered to pay attention to Cal coach Jeff Tedford playing star RB Jahvid Best one week after suffering a mild concussion vs. Arizona State....only to suffer a much worse concussion the following week against Oregon State. Best didn't play another game all season.
I brought up Mark Richt earlier because it seems like a UGA player could shoot a police officer and it wouldn't make USA Today. They have more arrests in the past 5 years than UF or UT, but no one notices. Hell, when UGA did their little end zone celebration in Jacksonville a couple seasons ago they didn't face the fury of the national media. Imagine if UF pulled a stunt like that.
There's no preferential treatment. The spotlight was on Meyer and UF this past season because we were ranked #1 and defending champs. Non-stories became big stories and big stories became major stories as far as the media was concerned.
UT was under a similar microscope because your former coach wouldn't shut the hell up about other schools' cheating when it was clear he had no clue what the rules were.
At the end of the day, neither school has the moral high ground over another when it comes to off the field issues. But to think UT is some sort of media target is ridiculous.
