I live in Fl and I'm a hudge UT fan, but not a Gatorhater either. When it comes Urban I believe he was telling the truth when he left. Now CDD from what can only read and hear on the sports talk radio show. He is doing what he can with what he,s got. Lame duck didn't leave him with much of a team. And anyone who has watched the past two years can see that. But I do agree there needs to be some coaching changes made. If UT is to get back to being a power house in the SEC.

Man, there's a LOT of revisionist history going on.

I don't know any UF fan here who viewed the Muschamp hire with anything but cautious but tempered optimism. We didn't know what to expect, and even the most irrational UF fan saw at least 3 losses on the 2011 schedule.[/QU no offense, but speaking for an entire fanbase, including the most radical elements is a weak way to argue a point.

Not knowing how to properly quote a post is even weaker.

My referencing UF fans was limited to his forum....had you bothered to comprehend what I posted, let alone quote it correctly.

I'm disappointed Weis is gone. I think he is subpar. Belicheck and Brady would make any offensive coordinator look incredible. He sucked at ND. He sucked at UF. And he will suck at Kansas.

I wouldn't have minded him sucking at UF for 25 years though.

No way does Charley Weis live another 25 years.

I knew folks personally who crowed about the hire. I am sorry that was unclear.

I think the uf fans on here represent an older, wealthier and better educated cohort of the overall UF fan base.

If UT was coming off two national titles recently in a talent rich state where we got mostly who we wanted I would not be too upset about an 8 win season.

I would say a big ? to me is identity. How long will it take muschamp to have an offensive identity at uf. Spurrier was great fun to watch unless you were playing him. Meyers gimmick worked well enough to get two titles...what will uf be now? A running team? A throwing team?

You highlighted the OL play as a reason for decline. UT fans know that all too well.

I am beginning to think the OP is a sports writer fishing for some truth. Good stuff.

I am grateful for what was posted in reply.

Muschamp is no orgeron but he is also not saban at this point.

No one thinks the offense will be good in September.

If dooley loses that game he will lose most of the fanbase imo.

The quote button doesn't work on my phone. Guess I know that now.

I understand you now...I'd assumed you meant 'here' in Florida.

Re: Muschamp, my own perception is that Florida fans viewed his hire as a positive one, and that he could be an excellent head coach. I still think that, given his energy level and apparent early commitment to recruiting. As to UT in that respect, I think it was just sort of nanny nanny boo boo kind of a thing where Florida fans could say he preferred the UF job over the UT job. Not that important, really, just another dig to throw at you.

As to Weiss, I was initially pretty happy with the hire because I thought he would be attractive to potential recruits who might think that he has inside connections and decent track to the NFL. Figured the offense could not get any worse.

The season has been a big let down. I didn't expect much, but the penalties and lack of consistency on offense are very discouraging for the long term. We could have beaten Auburn had we been able to be productive at all, and that might have changed a lot.

I am most concerned, frankly, with the situation vis a vis FSU. Getting out ahead of that program is just so important down here, not just because we naturally want to beat our rival, but because recruiting depends on it so much. Right now, it feels like they are on the upsurge while we are trying to find an identity.

Moving forward, I am willing to give Muschamp two years to make us competitive in the SEC. However, if next year repeats the penalty fiasco, I will be ready for a change.

I also wonder if despite the titles he brought if Meyer is now more like Kiffin to us.

That might be reaching a bit, but I understand the sentiment. I think he WILL be if OSU whoops up on some of that gator ass in the future however. But you could make the same argument about Spurrier, and he really did more to put FU on the map than CUM did.

No one addressed attrition as much as I hoped. I was stunned to see so many great players talent wise leaving.

Janoris Jenkins and Janzen Jackson could make a decent start to an upgraded secondary for a struggling NFL team but said team will need a full time chauffer and bodyguard/minder.

There is no way with any clear thinking people feel Muschamp should be fired next year, unless something catastrophic happens and we go 4-8, etc. I do think he has to beat Tennessee. he doesn't want to be the UF coach who loses on a regular basis to UT. If he does, then he will find himself without a job. The roster he was given was depleted with the talent he needs to run a pro-style offense. No big backs, very little talent on the OL or at WR, etc.

Muschamp said the other day that he looked at our two-deep and we are the youngest team in the conference (don't start going crazy UT fans). It's a fact.

Said we have 60 kids on scholly, so we are the lowest, or 2nd lowest, in regards to depth. These are real issues, not fabricated by a fan base or media. We have been killed by kids transferring out, but it happens. Our talent level isn't very good at all......

People need to remember, especially what I notice in your fan base. This stuff is ALL cyclical. It's Florida's time to be down and not a competitive program we have enjoyed the last few years. The simple fact is we just aren't that good. UT is just going through a down time after enjoying years of dominance in the SEC.

In the long run I think we will be fine, but it's all up to Muschamp to right the ship. This is the worst the program has been in 30 years, and we are down pretty bad. We'll see if he is up to the task of rebuilding the program from it's current chaos and save a sinking ship.

30 years? I think the early 80's were a bit worse post Pell scandal. But definitely the worst it has been since 1990.

I do not fault Muschamp for that, of course, and would give him a couple more years to get it together. The one area, however, that might change my mind quicker is if the penalties continue like they have. I just take that as a bad overall sign.

Early 80s were still a mess. I was there in the fall of 1983. It was pretty ugly around Florida Field then.

We had some major talent on the field, (and in the stands of course!!!) But we lacked depth. And the NCAA was still investigating (investigation began in 82). Pell was still the HBC, it was not a great situation at the time.

Pell was canned in 84, Hall was canned after the 89 season???

The entire 80's were a mess. Not a whole lot of great "program moments" back then. Some great players, but the program was a mess.
