No they didn't. East Carolina University beat NC State in Raleigh in 1987, and ECU fans tore down NC State's goal posts (and tore up the field) and carried them through the streets of Raleigh and reportedly took pieces of the goal posts back to the ECU dorm rooms. NC State's administration was so pissed off that they halted the games between the two teams for many years. NC State didn't think ahead. They reacted to a bad situation.
