We expected this season to be a train wreck, and it was.The Florida defense forced 5 turnovers all season long. 5. Stats will say 7, but 2 came on kickoff returns where a Florida player didn't even force the fumble. The LSU return man couldn't catch the ball and kicked it 15 yards forward and South Carolina did the whole end of game lateral thing.
5 Turnovers. All season.
Combine that with an inability to play defense and the mandatory amount of stupid required to be an official Florida football game and it's a miracle they won 5 games.
Don't forget the conjugal visit we provided to Kentucky. It's not the loss as they just rolled over in that one.
So florida goes up 12-0 on a safety with momentum. They then proceed to:
• Run a double reverse flea flicker that loses 14
• Have a defensive lineman ejected and extend a drive for spitting in someone’s face
• Give up td
• Miss another field goal
• Give up a TD on the opening drive of the 2nd half
• Hit a sliding quarterback who gave himself up after a 10 yard run on 3rd and 14
• Give up a TD to end the game with 3 minutes left.
The Gators have had some unusual penalties over the years. I’ll never forget the shoe toss incident against LSU.I mean, when your OL can’t hold blocks worth a damn all night, it makes perfect sense to call a long developing double reverse on 1st down to completely kill momentum.
And spitting, don’t forget the spitting.
Program has never been the same since then. As a Vol it is incredible to think about the stupidity of that moment compared to how awesome they look whenever they play us, particularly when they play us in The Swamp. The Gators have had some unusual penalties over the years. I’ll never forget the shoe toss incident against LSU.
He is beating SEC schools in the ACC. Goes to proves the conference you play in doesn't matter if the coaching, talent and fanbase is there.I like Mike Norvell but let’s not get carried away. Remember what conference he is doing it in. It ain’t the SEC. Look at the ACC title game. Both teams struggled mightily with a pair of mid level SEC teams today and one got whipped.
The SEC is one great team (UGA), one really good team (Alabama), a bunch of teams who could beat or lose to any other team in the conference on any given day, and then a couple of really ****** teams. The rest of the P5 conferences are basically the same way.I like Mike Norvell but let’s not get carried away. Remember what conference he is doing it in. It ain’t the SEC. Look at the ACC title game. Both teams struggled mightily with a pair of mid level SEC teams today and one got whipped.
Glad we could make it happen! Oh wait...It looks like the last time Florida had three losing seasons in a row was 1945 (4-5-1), 1946 (0-9-0), and 1947 (4-5-1) [Florida Gators College Football History, Stats, Records | College Football at Sports-Reference.com].
