9 with 4 turnovers.

Yes he did struggle but you can't say we only played seven guys with him playing 9min. I understand the other 2 guys don't really count with only a few minutes but Waspun played enough minutes to count. He did really struggle with the pressure though. That was disappointing.

No Miller, Yemi 2 minutes, McBee 3 minutes. Basically played 7 guys today.

Wow. The other day, I was arguing that a smaller rotation wouldn't help us that much. If this is telling for the way we play here on out, I was definitely wrong.

Still need to break the press better.

I agree but what was exciting was when we did break the press we didn't get out of the tempo we wanted to play. We played extremely smart and well coached with that lead late.

What was the lineup change? We had practice this morning and I caught the last 5 minutes of the game.

Jimmy Dykes is the only ESPN guy I like listening too. Besides his made up phrases, he's usually spot on in calling things out and notices a lot of crazy stuff you wouldn't figure ppl watch for. Excellent breakdown of how Halls defense has progressed when he showed how he was forcing Young to settle for stuff he wasn't comfortable with. Great defense.

Agree 100%.... So glad we didn't have to hear Dickie V today!

We started Richardson and Woolridge over McRae and Hall. Martin wanted defense from the get go was his reasoning for the change.

McRae and Hall brought great energy from the bench and scored a combined 23, and Richardson had nine points I believe starting.

Yeah, I liked seeing them pull the ball back out after penetrating and not taking the quick shot.

Woolridge and Richardson started in place of Hall and McRae.... Worked great. Both Hall and McRae played their best games in a while....

Fine. We played 8. Didn't mean to offend the Washpuns.

FOr whatever reason, we always play well against Donovan and the Gators. CBP basically owned them. Hope Cuonzo continues the trend. THe announcers really were complementary of Cuonzo and I hope UT fans took note. I think we are fortunate to have him as our coach. Go Vols!

Donovan's teams have never been known to play great defense. That is why Pearl's teams were so successful against him. His teams could run and gun with the best of them. Pearl would always struggle against defensive minded teams (think Ky when they had Billy Clyde).

Martin had his team guard the 3 today and force them into bad shots. Fla was more than willing to jack them up.

Martin flat out outcoached Donovan today with 1/2 the talent.

1. Hell yeah! What a big win for the program. It needed it. That just might be the game that gets this team going.

2. Great job Coach Martin from the beginning of the game. Richardson played with confidence. And you got 23 points from McRae and Hall. Those lineup changes worked perfectly. I also like McRae from the bench. Gives you some scoring you sorely lack.

3. The pick and roll defense was excellent. The guards did a great job fighting through screens and the post players rotated quickly. That's the type of defense Coach Martin wants this program to have.

4. Trae Golden played really well today. He didn't force things, controlled the pace of the game, and played really good defense today. Trae is starting to become a real threat at point guard.

5. Kenny Hall, you can do that every night. Just saying.

6. Josh Richardson has such good qualities to his game. He's young, a little raw, but he's going to be a fine player at Tennessee.

7. The post guys played like men today. They fought, clawed, and flat out hustled better than Florida tonight. It was a real joy to watch.

8. Tennessee had to control the flow of the game and they did. Florida only had two or three fastbreak buckets. You can tell Florida was out of their comfort zone all night.

9. Also, I have no idea why Florida didn't go to zone more. That perplexed me. Bad job by Billy D today.

10. This was a huge win for the team. You lose by 15 to your in state rival and beat a top 15 at home less than 72 hours later. Great job by the coaching staff, and the Vol faithful should be proud of the players today, they played great.

Go Vols!!! :hi:

Agreed on all points. I only remember a couple of times when Golden drove in too far and had nowhere to go with the ball. He played composed for the most part and didn't rush things.

The only negative I saw was our ballhandling and rebounding the ball (in the 1st half). Other teams that play defense better in the SEC will press us more I believe. I still can't believe Donovan didn't press us more. They were turning us over in the 1st half and went away from it.

Great gameplan by Martin. He outcoached Donovan and we outplayed them. Shut them down and forced them into bad shots and Fla has always taken bad shots, but they usually get a lot to go down.

Great win for Martin and the program.

Edit: And big ups to Kenny Hall. Without his play today we do not win. If he brings that type of game every time out we will be a tough out.

We need a better press break.

They had 14 offensive rebounds. That number needs to go down.

Donovan made a really dumb decision not to zone more.

I believe they got more in the 1st half than in the 2nd or it seemed like it. We seemed to box out more.

Yeah, I'm surprised Donovan didn't zone more especially when we were getting the ball inside. Some coaches, like Martin, just don't like it.

And damn, Kenny Hall. I edited my last post. Big props to him. If he plays like that every time out, we will give some people trouble. We aren't going to make anyone think we're Ky, but with that kind of play then we are more of a complete team. I hope the addition of Stokes has maybe lit a fire under his butt. Competition is always good.

Kenny Hall is easily the most frustrating player that I've watched play Tennessee basketball. And I remember J.P. Prince pretty well.

I HAVE BEEN BEGGING TO SPLIT UP MCRAE AND TATUM AND TO TAKE HALL OUT OF THE STARTING LINEUP. I FINALLY GOT MY WISH AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A GOOD MOVE. I FELT AS THOUGH IT WOULD GIVE US A MUCH MORE BALANCED LINEUP AND I DON'T THINK WE HAD MUCH DROPOFF WHEN WE SUBBED IN AND OUT AT ANY POINT.

3. The pick and roll defense was excellent. The guards did a great job fighting through screens and the post players rotated quickly. That's the type of defense Coach Martin wants this program to have.

BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE OF THE SEASON. AN EFFORT LIKE THAT EVERY NIGHT OUT, AND WE WIN A LOT MORE GAMES.

4. Trae Golden played really well today. He didn't force things, controlled the pace of the game, and played really good defense today. Trae is starting to become a real threat at point guard.

HE WAS VERY EFFICIENT TODAY. NOT SURE I'M READY TO AGREE WITH YOUR LAST STATEMENT JUST YET. SEE THE MEMPHIS GAME FOR PROOF OF THAT. YOU WERE QUESTIONING HIM YOURSELF AFTER THAT GAME AND ONE GAME LATER, HE IS ON HIS WAY TO BECOMING A REAL THREAT AT PG??? ONE GOOD GAME WILL NOT CHANGE MY MIND, BUT TO EACH THEIR OWN.

5. Kenny Hall, you can do that every night. Just saying.

WHO IS THIS KENNY HALL YOU SPEAK OF? THE KENNY HALL I KNOW IS A TIMID MOUSE WHO PLAYS LIKE HE'S 5-9 AND NOT 6-9. SOMEONE WEARING #20 LOOKED AWFUL DANG GOOD TODAY THOUGH. SEEMS LIKE SOMEONE MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN THE MESSAGE THAT WAS SENT BY CCM TODAY.

6. Josh Richardson has such good qualities to his game. He's young, a little raw, but he's going to be a fine player at Tennessee.

I LOVE HOW J-RICH UNDERSTANDS HIS ROLE AND DOESN'T TRY TO PLAY OUTSIDE OF IT. SEEMS TO BE A SMART PLAYER.

7. The post guys played like men today. They fought, clawed, and flat out hustled better than Florida tonight. It was a real joy to watch.

BEST GAME OF THE SEASON IN THE POST AND BEST JOB OF FEEDING THE POST ALL SEASON.

8. Tennessee had to control the flow of the game and they did. Florida only had two or three fastbreak buckets. You can tell Florida was out of their comfort zone all night.

I DOUBTED WHETHER OR NOT THIS TEAM COULD IMPOSE TEMPO ON ANYONE BECAUSE THEY HAD YET TO DO IT ALL SEASON. THEY JUST DID IT.

9. Also, I have no idea why Florida didn't go to zone more. That perplexed me. Bad job by Billy D today.

BILLY D HAS A MENTAL BLOCK AGAINST TENNESSEE, MUCH LIKE FULMER HAD A MENTAL BLOCK AGAINST FLORIDA. HE GOES INTO FULL-ON SILLY MODE AGAINST US SOMETIMES.

GREAT JOB BY BOTH THE COACHES AND PLAYERS TODAY. HUGE FOE US TO BE ABLE TO TURN AROUND AFTER THE DRUBBING WE TOOK AT MEMPHIS AND BE MENTALLY TOUGH ENOUGH TO COME HOME AND BEAT A TOP 15 TEAM BY IMPOSING YOUR WILL AND MAKING THEM PLAY YOUR GAME.

Go Vols!!! :hi:

Big time win today.

Was it just me, or did no one want the ball when the gators picked up full court after scores? Is Maymon good enough to be a safety valve vs pressure?

Washpun played with no confidence today. Can't believe Martin played him after he dribbled it out of bounds under token pressure.

Billy D could of trapped us out of a zone all day if he wanted. I bet our sketchy ball handling convinced him man pressure would turn us over more.

vols drew several charges today, some I thought were questionable, but that's how it should be when you play at home.

To answer your question. Maymon can get the ball up the court, but that's it. I don't want him trying to make plays after beating the original press.

Good post btw.
