Florida's defense, the best in college football?

I said before the season that Mett would have to score points this year, nothing has changed my opinion on that for sure. I picked UGA over LSU, I am going to go with a close one here, too close to call. UF has to force turnovers. Day game helps UF and I do like their CB.

If only Perryman had broken Driskel's ankle two weeks sooner....

Posted this in another thread in a convo with 99.

Your welcome. In a sick and twisted way.

Should be a great game this weekend. LSUs O vs. UFs D is gonna be fun to watch.

Im gonna go with whoever wins between UFs O and LSUs D.

Slight edge to LSU at home.

i think another poster earlier said it correctly.

with easley, i think it is. and with easley, i believe florida's defense would have done serious damage to the high caliber offenses they are about to face.

they may still be able to do that without him, but i am not sure.

I doubt Chavis has figured out how to stop a mobile QB yet

LSU defense is young, but very athletic, too. Their LBs and DEs will contain Fla's QB--who will be running for his life when LSU makes them one dimensional. I expect UF to use Burton some at QB, and will roll their QB out and attempt to give him the run--pass option. Don't see UF lining up and developing a run game Saturday.

Also--we scored 10 points offensively against that all world D in the swamp without a power running game and any remote semblance of a play-action passing game--and Peterman at the helm for one half...Worley did give us a spark in the 2nd half and had some success with less than LSU quality at the WR position..

LSU offensively has the QB, 2 legitimate deep threats who can beat UF's DBs, and probably the 2nd best rushing offense in the SEC--which will suck those suspect UF LBs up for play action to attack the middle of the field.

Let's face the facts here--UF has not really been tested, and LOST on the road in Miami. They do have a new mobile QB, but he will be in his first hostile environment in Baton Rouge. Gators DO NOT have the high octane offense UGA threw at LSU....Any way you slice it--the Gators get exposed this Saturday--and lose by 10. :salute:

If you account for how long the defense is on the field, Florida's defense held Tennessee to 11 yards/min and 0.85 points/min while Oregon's defense held Tennessee to 9 yards/min and 0.41 points/min.

The secondary has been kind of a mess for sure ie blown assignments. The DL has a hard time getting pressure and the LB crew is kind of just there. All of which leads to sub-par performance. I was expecting most of this pre-season due to all the early draftees leaving.

The second half against MSU last week was encouraging but we will see. White has taken over the one CB spot as a true freshman and is still giving up some plays but is now making the other team pay as well. Robinson another true freshman is slowly taking over the other CB spot as a true freshman, he was cleared late. The second half there was plenty of Robinson/White plus an extra man sent.

I still think Mett is going to have to put the points this year but if White/Robinson can start locking guys down by the end of the year it will give the Chief more options... right now the Chief is playing with a bad hand. Two lock down CBs by the end of the year could make things interesting.

I think White/Robinson are going to be the next stars but there is going to be some growing pain for a while.

We'll see.. if LSU gets a big lead it will be interesting to see how UF's QB does under pressure. I think this one is too close to call though.

This is a serious question, you think Easley makes that big of a difference? Because they look pretty damn good everywhere else on the field.

An unblockable defensive tackle just can't be replaced

It makes everything better, especially the guys around him on the defensive line.

Still a damn good defense , but not the same

I know that everyone one here hates the Bammers, and Tusktimes makes it easy to do so---but, I do believe at the end of the season Bama's D will have better stats than the Gators....GO VOLS! :salute:

As difficult as it must be to side with a Crimson Tider, think how much smarter that makes you around the ole water cooler. By the way, Bama this week is now #2 in the SEC in total defense and tied for first in scoring defense. Stay tune.

As it stands through 10/12 games, Vanderbilt and Alabama are the only two schools in the SEC where their played opponents have a combined losing record. Things may be different at the end on the year as the season plays out.
