Fly Fishing Thread.

Golfballs - you might try contacting someone at 3 rivers anglers in Knoxville. They might know someone interested.

Good looking boat, btw! Had mine on the Holston this weekend....took a couple chunks out of the glass, but a good day of fishing.

I just googled them. How long have they been open? I love that Knoxville got another fly shop after the Creel closed up!

Thanks.

I really hate to sell it, but I moved away from E. Tennessee and when I do come back I don't have time to float.

Heck, I live here and struggle to find time for getting out on the water, so I understand! Sorry to hear that you're having to sell it, but considering it's condition and the amount of folks that trout fish aroud here, I'm sure you'll have some interested buyers.

I believe that they've been open since around Christmas time. There's a KNS article about it floating in cyber space too. They're pretty nice fellas, and you're right, it is nice that Knoxville has a local fly shop again. IIRC these guys noticed the market since the Creel closed. I still spend some time (and money) at LRO though :). Any local fly shop, as opposed to a box store, gets my time and money. :)

Hey, thanks for the info re: 3 rivers. I'll have to check them out.

Nice boat, Golfballs. A shame you don't get to use it more often.

Does anybody have any info about how the Clinch and/or SoHo are fishing? I have promised myself that I'll spend more time concentrating on trout and less time busting the banks for bass this spring.

Danl (or anyone else interested):

I haven’t fished the Clinch lately…if I finish the ol’ lady’s to-do list, maybe I’ll get out there this weekend:). I’ve never fished the SoHo, but fish the Clinch as often as possible. I can’t give you a great report, but here’s a collection of good reports and references that may put you on the right track:

Little River Outfitters: They have a message board much like VN (although, the back and forth ‘banter’ isn’t nearly entertaining as VN:)). Members post fishing reports fairly often. There is also a daily fishing report from the owners. Mainly for the mountains, but sometimes there are tailwater blurbs. Little River Outfitters - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains

Ian and Charity Rutter (local guides) have a fishing report; they guide both the mountains and tailwaters. R and R Fly Fishing | Fly Fishing the streams in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the tailwater rivers of East Tennessee and western North Carolina

Mike Bone guides the Clinch and Holston (and some other places too). He is an excellent guide, if you have money to spend, it is well worth it. Here’s his blog: The River Journal - Journal

Hugh Hartsell is another guide and has a few reports on his website: Smoky Mountain Guide Service

Hope that helps, and good luck!

LRO censors out the word 'damn' from their posts. LOL

Ha! That's pretty damn funny! I reckon Paula (the admin for LRO) would be appalled if she ever read VN! In all seriousness, I guess they want to keep it ‘clean’; it’s part of their business.

Thanks, Jed. That is a big help. I'm somewhat familiar with the Clinch, but don't know anything about where to wade on the South Holston.

I'll probably start making weekly trips to the Clinch starting next week Maybe I'll meet some other VN FFers out there.

Otter and Slice are fishing somewhere in east to mid Tennessee next Sunday the 24th.
Which rivers are fishing good right now?

Check out the fishing report on this website, it should help: Knoxville Tennessee's best fly fishing shop - 3 Rivers Angler

LRO has a message board and someone might post a fishing report as well.

The Clinch was slow earlier this month, but that might change by the time y'all make it over here. I plan to float the lower Holston this weekend for smallies.

Best of luck to y'all!

Caught an 18" rainbow on the clinch at the church access last week on spinning tackle (wrong thread, I know). My personal best. I work pretty close by, so I've been taking "extended" lunch breaks almost everyday. I've figured out that this can't end well.

Went there two Saturdays in a row, can't seem to find out what they are hitting on.

I think it's just slow right now. I always use spinners anyway, so for me they either hit it or they don't.

Any striper fishermen on here?

She would definitely be appalled!

:boobies: LOL

I sold my drift boat :cray:

Bummer man:ermm: Did you at least get what you were asking for it? Did you sell it to someone around East TN? Mine's been sitting in the backyard for most of the summer....been a little too busy to get out, but that will hopefully change soon.

Yeah, I sold it to a guy here in East Tennessee. Got just under the asking price, but it worked out for both of us.

It's been so hot and dry up here that fishing dries is pretty much useless. I've had decent results getting Browns throwing Marabou's and Mickey Finns.
