I stayed in the Hampton East of Knoxville on 398 (Strawberry Plains Pike). I only stay in Hamptons because of my honors points, but this time it was out of necessity also because we didn't know we could make the race this year until a week before, so hotels were at a premium. Not really a bad drive though, especially this year with the traffic being quite dense because of the small crowd.

You thought traffic was dense?

We found it to be rather sparse.

I stayed in Ashevillle, NC. It's only an hour and a half drive from the track and four hours from my current home. And the room was $60 which isn't bad.

That's what I probably should have done. I live about one hour outside of Asheville and stayed at the Days Inn in Johnson City for $250 for one night. I was only staying for the Nationwide race and that was the only hotel in the area that I found without a two night minimum.

I stayed at the Biltmore Comfort Inn and Suites for $60. Anything closer was $200 plus.

Spring race TV ratings:

2008 - 6.4
2009 - 5.5
2010 - 5.3
2011 - 3.9

OUCH! I know it was competing against the NCAA Tournament but a 3.9 rating for Bristol. We are entering Pocono and Michigan territory.

Bristol management really needs to push NASCAR for an April date. Not only avoid NCAA, but have better weather.

They got pretty lucky this year with the weather - this was about the nicest Bristol weather I can remember in years. But yes they do need to push for a mid-late April date.

Logistically, I don't see why they don't do a total "west coast swing" after Daytona, instead of criss crossing back and forth.

Phoenix, Vegas, California, Texas, with an off weekend thrown in there somewhere. That allows the weather to get more spring like out east.

The weather was nice this year, but has been atrocious most recent years, and that is what people go by. Very few decide to go the day of the race, and the local forecast was for a 30% chance of rain as of Saturday midday, so I really don't believe the good weather was much of a factor. The first race for many years was in May, then moved to April, then to March.

I've thought the same, but some hauling back and forth would be required since they use different cars for the tracks out there. Plus your crew members have to be housed, and they are away from the shop instead of working on cars for upcoming races. If you wreck a car, you either have to haul it back so it can be repaired, or get behind.

Yeah, that's true as well. I hadn't thought that far into it.

RB, despite the changes in mulligans, are the groups still going to be reset after Daytona?

I believe I said there would be an evaluation and any needed adjustments to be considered. Basically, the point standings will be the guide. An example would be if Regan Smith is in the top 12, how could you still consider him a C driver?

That's what I was wondering, just recalibrate the groups according to standings in the same method that was used to create the original groups.
