They built a nice one here (parquet floor in the produce, bakery, and butcher sections; build your own 6-pack; etc.)less than two years ago and it's closing. Always full of customers and the best prices and quality meat from any of the local chains. I've heard management believes they have overstretched their limits and are shutting many down, all in Georgia.

The number changes with different articles, but looks like 110-126 under performing stores will be closed affecting 4900 employees. Also, a distribution center in Tennessee.

I've always wondered what possible thought process leads someone to "hey, I know...let's go eat at Ryan's."

They have about closed them all in and around Nashville. Wal Mart running them out of here. They're closing some Kroger stores also.... about 5. I invision a day with less choices and limited supplies. Kind of scary really.

depends on the Ryan's, some of them were actually pretty good. Management competence almost always determines the quality of the food at buffet-style restaurants.

Many years ago Food Lion got caught (on one of the news magazine shows IIRC) for selling old meat. I think they are an NC based food store.

I know around here, Publix is the chain that is eating everyone's lunch - not Walmart.

I worked at Food Lion during that time. It was 20/20 and ABC had to apologize publicly in the end. It was ABC employees doing the bad butchering.

The one closest to me is closing too. Sucks!! I shop there a lot. They don't have everything I need, but it is ... was ... super convenient to run in and pick things up. The people that worked there were great. I hate it for them.

We have Von's Ralph's and albertsons here.

I think Ralph's is owned by Kroger.

They all suck in my opinion.

Several older people went there for lunch or early dinner. It was a gathering place for them.

The Ryans and Food Lion both closing is around 75-100 jobs lost.

I don't know of any chains closing these large of numbers since 1985-1995.
