So one of my employees asked to speak with me alone today. She pulled me aside and said she was in need of money and knew I didn't do cash advances but she had food stamps she would sell to me at 50 cent on the dollar...

and here is where it really pissed me off...

she said she and her boyfriend always have about 150 dollars worth left over each month and sell them to her neighbor 75 cents on the dollar but since her neighbor was on vacation she would sell them to be at less.

I said no. She persisted (as they always do) and again I said no and walked off.

The funny thing is, I must add, is this employee would make 28,000 per year if she would only show up and work full time... but she only wants to work part time so she can keep her food stamps and welfare she says.

Nothing about this story suprises me. It takes a work ethic and higher morals and values to not abuse "the system". But as it stands "the system" is set up so that politicians are ensured of votes because they continue to give handouts. When it comes poll time those individuals, like your employee, will be sure to remember that and cast her vote accordingly. Just like a certain someone in the last few months promised college grads that he was going to reform financial loans, which of course was to get more of the college aged voters out in his favor. I do agree that reform needs to take place in giving out loans, but it has more to do with actually giving loans based on projected incomes, and not giving them to every Tom, Dick, and harry that applies. Also we need to take a hard look at for profit colleges.

The underground market for food stamps is quite large. The hot thing now is trading them for pills.

Pills are a hot commodity.

Example: Tenncare provides a woman 90 80 mg Oxycontin a month. The rate was 1 dollar per mg. 90x80 is 7200.00. She was also receiving other government benefits. Now we are seeing a wave of Opana abusers.

Its a black thing.

That's why he posted it. Duh.

I understand your contempt for Neo given your different opinions and some of his racially charged threads, but you have to admit that our system offers some crazy incentives for working part time/not working at all. Reform is necessary.

Fair enough.

What is she using the money for? It's the system that needs to be fixed.

Yep... It's different state to state but it's applied on a sliding scale, and you can't make that much money and receive EBT here. It is somewhere north of the poverty line though, but $22k/year is not the same in downtown Portland as it is in suburban Ohio or Tennessee or wherever.

I know there are systems where if you make X amount of money then you qualify for it, but as soon as you pass a certain threshold then you don't, which can create issues.

It's not the food stamps, it is the medical assistance probably that keeps her on the public dole. I am the first to speak out against the way the system works, but at 28k per year, she probably can't afford health insurance so she may be forced to stay part time.

This is the case for a lot of people. 28k with some health care, even state-provided, is better than 32k with no health insurance.

Only roughly 15% of my staff are minorities. And I can honestly say this crap is not a color thing. There are a ton of lazy ass white people out there.

And where is my racially motivated thread that puts down black people??????

Link these threads please.

I agree with the OP but when you say "the blacks" it does have a certain connotation to it that screams I want black folk as far away as possible.

please see Milo's statement above.

He is a mod and he stated he was kidding.

If he was serious he could have blown me out of the water just now and proved I was a racist.

I daresay just about every regular in this forum believes you to be a racist, NEO. And I am certain of it.
