Football isn’t happening...

Do you work in the medical or scientific field? If not then you’re making some pretty wild accusations. What evidence do you have that these are bad tests? If you aren’t in the health or scientific field then would you even understand how the accuracy of these tests are measured?
You missed my point that there is no scientific consensus. You can find an "expert" to tell you anything you want to hear about this virus and the testing. There are many types of Coronavirus, so how do we know they are only isolating CV19 with these tests? We don't.

My point exactly- don't just read a headline. They're designed as clickbait. That's all. They thrive on fear and chaos. Look into the story and examine the numbers. Testing has skyrocketed & # of cases is not as relevant as it was. FL has a ton of seniors- 20 million people with only 3k deaths. ARK=170 deaths. TX= 2100 deaths out of 30 million people. OK only has 200 hospitalizations from a high of over 500 a few months ago. SC = of the 7,461 inpatient beds currently used, 660 are occupied by patients who have either tested positive or are under investigation for COVID-19. The state still has over 3,500 beds not being used.
How's Georgia doing? We were convinced they'd backslide. Clickbait my friend. They need you to be angry or scared.
I agree with you on the general public aspect, but we are talking about thousands of men hanging all over themselves in close quarters for hours. Then what? Are they going to be quarantined all season? Do you really think that is going to happen?

This virus poses virtually no threat to people under 60. We know this. We have all the information to back this up. Yet, we still have people that don’t get it. Wild. Simply wild.

Protect the vulnerable.

Open. Everything. Else. Up. Now.

This is so obvious it hurts.

Baseball doest exist past college. They killed the game. Truth is the cheaters made MLB more fun to watch.

Way back in the 50's as a high school player, "we were told to try to pick up (steal) the other teams signals, just as they were trying to do the same. It was part of the game. As it is now.

It will happen for them also. Hell, they're ahead of the curve now.

That's the way I look at it too. No athletes are dying of this. If they catch it they will have the antibodies and won't test positive again down the road. This is a relatively harmless virus to the young and strong.

It's only a matter of time before a player or coach with pre-existing conditions gets seriously ill or dies. I can think of at least one player and a number of coaches on our team who are especially vulnerable to this disease.

I'm sure, in particular, a coach will likely die form this. You can't keep sports shut down because of that though. A lot of livelihoods depend on them. The snowball effect could be devastating, and there is no guarantee when a vaccine or truly effective treatment will come. Life goes on and shutdowns only prolong the issue.

With everything opening back up, people are going to start gathering and the virus will start rapidly spreading again.

It’ll be like this for the rest of the year so it’s highly unlikely they’ll be any football or basketball going on.

And it will stop "at the end of the year"? I think not. I think we are gonna have to live (or die) with it. We can't stop the world and just get off.

I read the same headline and think exactly the opposite.

Good on Clemson, they're building up herd immunity faster than most.

As the article said:

It's just mid-June. By mid-July, they may be approaching 100% immunity. Almost certainly by mid-August. By the first game of the season, they'll be ready to begin an entire football season free of worry.

This isn't a story about how football in 2020 is doomed. It's a story about the best way to ensure the season goes off without a hitch.

We should all be doing a Clemson. Only protect and isolate lads like Trey Smith who are vulnerable to possible effects of the disease. Once all his teammates have had it and gotten the anti-bodies, he's free to move among them like any other team mate, because...herd immunity.

Along these lines:
They have (they?) changed the way they are reporting deaths. They are now including people they think have died from things they say are related to C-19, like heart failure, some cancers, some pneumonia caused by other than C-19 where they say C-19 may have been a factor. What I'm trying to say is, anything they can blame on C-19 they are. Now they are expanding the testing results to include cases of exposure or presents of the c-19 virus in your system (but no illness) as being one of the afflicted.

We will start I think just like when school starts up you can’t keep it closed it’s a bad thing what’s going on but it’s impossible imo to just shut everything down especially it seems to keep popping up and a lot of people aren’t wearing masks anyways so you know.

Another informed post.

We need exposure and Herd Immunity to develop - if you don't know what this is look it up and get out of the fear/anger culture the MSM wants you in.

So, NYT numbers still indicate an infection rate less than one percent. Of those 2.2 million infections, 119,000 were fatalities; that’s around 5%.

Coronavirus in the U.S.: Latest Map and Case Count

Now I understand that approximately 90% of those deaths were people 60 and older. Also, numbers of reported deaths are WAY down from their peak about 8 weeks ago.

Still, I don’t want my parents or kids getting this, as the symptoms can be very severe. Also, I’m not gonna be that one dumbarse whose fate lies in the statistically tiny variation.

So, I’m wearing a face cover and washing my hands. I have my kids do the same. I’m not going to the Walmart. They have free shipping. I do go to the Publix, because Publix. I’ll also go to the Lowe’s, because now I’m the handyman. I’ve painted two rooms and installed a gym with ballet barre. Girl dad + Willie Gault + Walter Payton = shut up.

I bring groceries to my parents and my in-laws - all four with comorbidity - but even they’re starting to rebel. I see Meals on Wheels in my future. I’m volunteering to count absentee ballots.

Point being, life goes on. No school restarted workouts thinking there would be no/few positive tests. There will be more positive tests. A few coaches or players will die, but we always knew this was not a zero-risk proposition. They’re playing. We’re going back to work. Let’s each figure out the best way to chip in and be supportive in our local community and the UT community. Chances are, for most of us, we won’t be able to do so in person at Neyland.

Fox News didn’t say a thing. All the rioters, looters, and protesters said covid was over.

I happened to watch about 10 minutes of the local news yesterday. At every Juneteenth demonstration, almost every single person had a mask on.

But in Gatlinburg (this is not hyperbole), not one single person had a mask on. Not one.

it's the only way to look at it

i get it if you're scared ( quit watching MSM ) but like any other virus Herd Immunity must occur to overcome this thing
Yes, but in this environment, do you really think the almighty powers that be are going to use primarily black men to facilitate herd immunity through playing football? I’m no supporter of MSM, but you’d have to be living under a rock the last month not to understand the moral panic that has endured over racial issues. The narrative would write itself.

For the record, I want nothing more than a college football & sports season, if for no other reason than it may be the only thing that would keep the country from tearing itself apart over the next six months.
