Football Recruiting as of now...

I keep hoping I can convince one of these idiots to jump off the cliff so that hopefully the rest of the lemurs will run off the edge too.

dont worry im not going anywhere.

And I dont think the sky is falling. Im just concerned because this rebuilding was already supposed to be at least a 2, prob 3 year project. If we arent pulling in the talent needed it might become a 4-5 year project. And Im not sure Kiffin would still be here if it took 4-5 years just to get going.

and i know we lead for chaz. but does anyone have any NEW information? I do follow recruiting so I know all the old stuff.

The thing that makes me say hmmm, is Kiffin seems to have guys that are very interested and ready to commit and they are put on hold thinking we will be able to pull someone that is considered a higher pickup. These players that are considered fall back options are committing to other schools and we are missing out on some of the players we thought were better leaving us empty.

I agree and have never felt the "slow play" tactic is the best strategy (not even sure anyone has proven it is a strategy).

I would want to know who we are slow playing, I don't think we are or are really in a position to do so.

I actually wasn't trying to call you out, your thread was just the most recent thread with a negative spin to it so I posted here. Some people seem to believe that a top 10 class is a failure of some sort. Top 10 is almost a lock imo, and top 5 is easily attainable. People just need to chill out and watch what happens.

This would apply to not giving an offer, but how do you give an offer and then say we don't want you to commit? This doesn't make sense.

They have reason to be concerned. Bama and Florida have been killing it on the recruiting trail. We have been doing pretty well, but are not on those two teams' level yet. What's annoying is people who think UT's staff members are like gods and can do no wrong.

You mean we're not recruiting on the same level as the #1 and #5 teams in the country???

SHOOT ME NOW!

We'd be VERY fortunate to land anywhere in the Top 10 with the circumstances that have transpired over the past few months...including blowout losses to Ole Miss and VT.

That's not even including our 2nd team defense getting walked all over by a lame Memphis team in the 2nd half of that game. This staff is going to have to do a good job of selling early playing time, cause evidence of on-field improvement has been rather uninspiring.

Yes, they are overreacting. I think some felt with Monte and O, we would pull every defensive player in the country. This simply, will not happen. We will still finish strong, but have lost momentum. A big commit next week could change that.

Yes, I am almost certain every recruit makes their decision based on this...Really?! Really?!

Can you post something positive?

If i remember i think TJ Leifeit (4* OL) who committed to UNC was one.

Based on what posters wrote or what the staff and/or TJ stated? Enlighten me, because I do believe it to be a strange strategy for a recruit who has an offer.

I think initially, plenty of recruits who were intrigued by Monte's and CEO's reputation, have seen a dramatic dropoff the last half of the season, and that luster has since been tarnished. They likely see it now as just hype. Plus, it has to be attractive enough to pull them from their home state programs. Not easy to do in states like Florida, Texas and California

Memphis, 2nd team defense, are you kidding?

Losing Wilson and Gran who built relationships with many of these players is the main issue, not the "tarnished" reputation of Monte and CEO.

Yes...they are still a vital part of this program...not the scout team. It's one thing to see them give up a few plays, but they embarrassed this staff and had CLK plenty hot.

It didn't matter on the scoreboard, but it reflected very poorly on this defense, and to be honest...this defense never looked the same thereafter. It has me wondering if something about our scheme wasn't exposed, as our coaches were helpless to stop such a lowly team....unless they chose to put the starters back in.

Well, losing them may have some part, I'm sure, but defensive recruiting seemed to have stalled pretty much since this defense started its slide.

I know I'm nowhere near as impressed with Monte and the staff as I once was.

Granted, we were exposed against Ole Miss and VT, but using the Memphis second half against our second and third team D is a stretch.

Maybe from a coaching stand point but not from a 17 year old prospect that probably had already left at halftime.

What were your expectations? Remember, our slide also happened after losing our top two middle linebackers and Janzen being suspended. Look at FLA, Bama, GA, and SC when we were full strength.

Plenty other teams have key players injured or suspended. One MLB position doesn't spell such a dramatic decline. Especially when Lathers was looking good in Spring and in fall camp. He had a big game the other night, and we had Jackson back. This defense has been exposed and I hope Monte+ more talent can get it corrected, but I'm still not as optimistic as I was earlier in the season.

As of now, we have Copeland(if moved), Brown(if he makes it), and Smith coming in to go along with Hughes and Walls for DT's. With Willis decommitting, who's on the boards? Thorton, Maurice Hayes, Harris, Whitaker? Does anyone know who the staff is high on and who they are really putting the full court press on?
