For all the Haters..

It was the way the press conf. went. He gave us the perception that he had his man, or he had a clue who that man was. The two he publicly went after both said no. It seemed to me that he was being arrogant. All he had to do was mention that Tennessee was interested and they would jump at the chance. When both said no, it appears, he looked around to see who was left. He had over a month to convince his men that they should come here. I know that I'm not going to sway anyone, I just get more than a little offended when some on here describe me as a hater when I've been a fan for over 40 years.

I didn't say you were a hater, and I understand your point. Like I said, I'm just trying to see it from both sides. The fan in me got pissed that the search took so long, but the optimist in me said, "just be patient and have faith in the process."

No offense meant. :peace2::peace2:

Saban won an SEC title in his second season at LSU in 2001. Miles won the conference in his third season in 2007.

There’s your bar, Butch.

From the article.

Like the hire or not, he is our coach for the next 3 years minimum, and hopefully many more which means he's winning. Jury's out on him for at least a couple of years. I'm prepared to let the man do his job, support him until he doesn't deserve it any more, and pull for him to be the coach who turned the Tide.

I guess I'm a hater, but Hart could have gotten a better coach, he just screwed the whole search up by keeping Dooley too long and, when he did fire Dooley, once again UT got shot down by some big names and subsequently was sent scrambling for a good but not great coach. This article did nothing to sway my opinion of Butch. He's just gonna have to prove it to me and many, many others on the field.

Minus the last one, that's top 25 recruiting classes every year. With 3 top 5 classes in there. Yeah, his recruiting was really that bad.

Three so-called top five recruiting classes, and that translated into exactly ZERO top five finishes, ZERO top ten finishes and three years failing to make even the
top twenty from 2002 to 2008. Excellent dividends from excellent recruiting......cough.

One problem I have with the hire of CBJ is that he has a much lower winning percentage than his predecessor, Brian Kelly. Kelly winning % is 74.535 whereas CBJ is at 64%. Plus CBJ did not do as well at Cincy as Kelly.

I would venture to say that this critical post will get me flamed so go ahead and flame away.

Dooleys winning percentage was 41.6%......

I still don't understand why, if you're not overjoyed with this hire, you're a hater. Aren't we all Vol fans? Some of us feel a little jaded by the way process went down. We\me that are supposed "haters" saw Hart sit on his butt for a month and went after who was left. He (Jones) might be the greatest coach to ever grace the Vol sidelines, but I for one remain sceptical until I see some results. Rewind this to three years ago. Were we all in for Dooley? If not, were we haters then too? I'm not going to buy into anything sight unseen. I remember the excitement that preceeded Kiffin. We were all in. Now fast forward to today. In the words of Roger Daltry....I "won't get fooled again".

I agree with you completely!!! I've been a Vol fan since around 1968, and am not happy with Hart and his "search process" for finding Dooley's replacement. Hart knew, or should have known Dooley would not cut it in the SEC after the KY game last year... yet he didn't begin searching for a new coach until he fired Dooley after the Vandy loss??? Even after we let the likes of Akron, Georgia State, and Troy hang around so long??? THEN... Hart misses out on Strong, Gundy, Petersen, Patterson... due to not being willing to shell out the $$$ to lure them away from their current programs... and didn't even talk to Tuberville or Petrino (even if Bobby does have morality issues, he is also a great football coach)??? And he winds up with a coach who has no "major program" D1-A experience!!!

No, I have to agree with you in not being overjoyed with Hart's hiring of Jones... and that Jones will have give us some results before I will begin buying Jones Soda at any price. That being said... I am not a "negavol!" I love the Orange and White as much as anyone, and am simply sick-and-tired of AD's like Hamilton and Hart... and chancellors like Jimmy Cheek... who are Bama and Clemson fans... and do not care about our Vols!

GBO.......... despite Hamilton, Hart, Cheek, or Jones!

Well said... and I'm still highly underwhelmed by what Butch Jones said would be the "greatest college coaching staff in the country."

GBO............. despite Hamilton, Hart, Dooley, Kiffin, Cheek, and Jones!

this article is taking a shot at the Vol fan base because we want to be a competetive program. nice. also, Fulmer got lazy in recruiting and let the SEC catch up and pass him by in every aspect of the game. no sympathy for him, only gratitude for his accomplishments. i like CBJ. we do need his attitude, enthusiasm, and confidence. he needs a national stage to prove that he has the ability to be a national champion. that part of the article, i agree with. its just not because we need everything now. we just need a good coach to believe in.

Well you really could have fooled me with that second to last sentence. Over the last two months a hefty percentage of people on here have acted like spoiled children who want everything now.

I agree. However, due to his lack of D1-A "major program" experience (sound familiar???), I refuse to buy into the Jones Soda stock any more than I bought into the Doolaide stock Hamilton was trying to sell VN.

GBO............ despite Hamilton, Hart, Cheek, Dooley, Kiffin, or Jones!

I feel that we must support our coach whoever he is.....until he displays he is a total jerk or that he is absolutely in over his head.
