Tee Martin's earring certainly sabotaged the program.

I didn't realize that UT was an adjunct institution to West Point. If UT is going to have these ludicrous rules, announce them on the recruting trail. I want TCHFCATUTK and Mini-Fulmer to go into the living rooms of elite prospects and tell them that if they come to Knoxville they have to dress and behave like Wally Cleaver. Let's see how far that gets them.

The military references were examples.... but apparently, several of my posts have you really confused by your out of context responses.

Funny post though. While I agree that recruits should know what they are getting into when signing with a school, I think the comparison to Wally Cleaver a little harsh.

Earrings or no earrings, the players represent the University and I'm pretty sure they are told that when they are recruited.

I think Jamal Lewis's Oriental shirts hurt us the most.
I still don't think we've recovered from the damage done by Dale Carter's haircut.

Is anyone denying UT had a discipline problem last year? They do call it the Fulmer cup for a reason. Tennessee has an image problem. Having players wearing earrings, etc. isn't helping that image IMO.

I, personally, do not follow the logic in linking off-the-field trouble with the wearing of jewelry.

However, I have no problem with a coach requiring his players to dress or act a certain way. It's HIS team, and if he wants to avoid displaying a certain "image," that's his right.

If the coach is up front about it in the recruiting process, I agree.

I think the logic is that the earring is just a symbol of Ainge being too caught up in things that do not matter. Telling him to not wear it is showing him that there is a chain of command. That team is more important than individual. Sure some guys you do not need to do this with, like Tee Martin for example. Tee obviously understood the team concept. The earring in itself is not the problem they are trying to solve with Ainge by not allowing him to wear it. They are just trying to help the young man mature and understand that he is not the center of the universe.

Are you really implying that Ainge might be over-confident? That's a new spin.

I think this is WAY off and that the issue is unity, as earlier posted. You know, the old "there is no I in TEAM" thing.

Yes. Putting him on the team schedule poster certainly helped to diminish his sense of self-importance.

There a many pieces to a large organization such as UT athletics. The coaches are the ones that are dealing with Ainge, not the marketing department.

Well then whoever made that poster should not be allowed to wear earrings anymore.

This is the LAMEST thread EVER....

Earrings????

They're NOT the distraction.

This isn't 1986!!

The 40 "ho's", the "thug life", the "gangsta" wannabe attitudes are the problem.

Boy, have things changed in the last 7 years.

I guess they changed "The Strip" from what it used to be to what it is now to satisfy these attitudes.

By the way, you're not going to find many earrings worth anything on Ebay from our players.

It's all about "Teeth Jewelry" now...... 2006.......not 1986

Forget earrings and gold teeth...I want to see box cuts come back into style. I found a program from 1992 that had me on the floor. Between the box cuts and Paul Yatkowski's flowing mullet, it's tough not to laugh.
