For The Win

I am gutted. You might be right.

The sadness of losing this game has given me a headache. All Candace had to do is duplicate what she did in game 3 especially with Brunson in foul trouble and Maya guarding her.

Game over.

All Candace had to do was duplicate what she did in game 3 FOR ONE HALF. And she couldn't be bothered to do that. Any veteran player and so-called Top 20 Player in History who has to be given a coach pep talk during a championship-deciding game AT HOME is unworthy of any accolade. She is a straight up loser, even if she drops 50 points in Game 5 and LA goes on to win.

She is lazy, a primadonna, a selfish teammate, and unworthy of any praise. And she is also perhaps the most talented player in the league. I've made a lot of excuses for why LA hasn't won the WNBA championships, but they had no chance once they drafted Princess Parker. She was a false hope.

Yep, Candace isn't hungry enough to win a championship! Barking about how she is being defended, frustrated to the point of having words with her head coach, hiding on the perimeter and not wanting to mix it up inside...she doesn't deserve an WNBA championship. Maya Moore's motor is always full throttle, moving and slashing to the bucket tonight while never looking gassed! She wants it! Candace is no longer a leader on the court, she has become complacent as her head coach mentioned, no fire in the belly, no drive to be the best any more!

The most impressive thing about Maya Moore was that she got 31 points while being heavily guarded by two of the best perimeter players in the WNBA. It's not like Carson or Beard didn't make things difficult for her. She was smothered, but she played with a determination that she would not be denied. Why the hell didn't Candace have this attitude?

Candace should have had 30 points in the first half alone. She had Brunson on the bench with 3 fouls 5 minutes into the game, and was being guarded first by Natasha Howard, whom she toyed with in the last game and scored at will on, and then Maya who gave up 4 inches in height. She should have buried both of them. But because she's a crybaby little b!tch, she'd rather pout and hang around on the perimeter while Nneka tries to battle against Sylvia Fowles down low.

Ogwumike didn't have the numbers because she had no help inside. This loss is 100% on Parker's shoulders, and if I were her teammates, I would be PISSED.

I wouldn't go that far but I can understand your disproval of her performance. Something is going on with her. Might be personal issues? I hadn't seen her husband this past season or any mention of him. Just guessing. Don't know. Assuming.

But yes Candace is inconsistent.

I'll be watching Game 5 to see if she shows up and out.

Maybe I'm being too hard on Candace. She dedicates her Championship series to Pat's memory. Yet she can't show up for every game. At the most that would be 5 games at the beginning. And now it is 5 games. Maybe she has Attention Deficit. or some other situation that gets in her way. She takes whole games off.. Not a play here and there but the whole game. I'd be peeved if I was her team mate. It wasn't like she played all out and got shut down.

No, it's not. It's LA vs. Minnesota. Nneka (from Stanford) is the star of the LA team (and all of the WNBA) this year, not Parker. Parker wasn't even voted second team all-WNBA this year. And just where does Bashaara Graves factor in as a member of the Minnesota team? Is she now considered a Connecticut grad because she plays for the Lynx? The logic of your statement eludes me.
she no longer plays for the lynx-know your facts before trying to dispel anything people say here.

With 30 seconds left in the game, LA had a chance to pull out the win. Unfortunately for LA, Parker was a train wreck during those final 30 seconds. Nneka was solid as always. She could have used a little help tonight. Gray was solid off of the bench.
I beg to differ, Nneka threw the ball away twice when we could have taken the lead. She was as much a disappointment to me as Candace was.

I would think that if she had a medical/injury problem, the coach would be aware and sit her. Maybe for personal problems as well.

I don't find any of this very surprising because it's how she played at UT. She played hard when she wanted, and took plays off when she wanted. No change now.

Hopefully Danielle Patterson doesn't find this as reprehensible as some of us.

She didn't have ADD when she won MVP her rookie year, or even as recently as last season when she posted an eye-popping stat line in half a season's play. When she wants to be, she is the best player in the game. And that happened about 50% of the time this season.

What I see is that Nneka emergence as a star in her own right brought out the worst tendencies in Parker, and she is playing like she's hoping she can just ride shotgun and let Nneka carry the team to the championship without her having to get her hands too dirty. Let Nneka try to score on Sylvia Fowles and Brittany Griner. Let Nneka try to defend them while Parker can just hang out in the perimeter. Her stats are down not because she's making her teammates better, but because her teammates are better, it allows her to play at half speed and LA can still win most of their games. In this game, seeing as how Sylvia had Nneka bottled up but good, it was the perfect setting for Candace to take over and show why she is an ungodly basketball talent. Brunson was saddled with fouls, McCarville was out, and Minnesota had no one that could match up to stop her from going off. But she put the shackles on herself instead.

She has proven her Olympic and All-WNBA voting detractors correct, and I'm sure she's turned off a lot of her fans with her sorry performance in these championship games. She's a lazy primadonna who can't be bothered to play her heart out when the stakes are at their highest.

We've had our disagreements Amb but this is very well said and I love it! I am one who defended Candace until I was red in the face, she could do no wrong but as I started looking and analyzing her play all season I have come to the same conclusion you have and I can no longer defend such lousy play and what seems to be an idgaf attitude. Last nights play was totally inexcusable and she should be ashamed of herself. That is not the Sparks way, that is not the Lady Vols way, that is not the Coach Pat Summit way and nor is that the Parker way (judging from how her brother Anthony made a name for himself when no one was truly interested in him as a player).

Nneka was being guarded by Sylvia Fowles, who towers over her and is long and athletic. She didn't get as many shots off or makes as she normally did, but she was fighting. She had plenty of sequences where she got the ball in the low post and tried every post move imaginable only to bet cut off by Sylvia each time, and forced to pass the ball out. She played hard, and wasn't taking plays off. She was fighting Sylvia for rebounds, and got 8 of them.

Parker was guarded by smaller players that she should have posted up on/driven past and abused them on the block. And she didn't. She was fine taking perimeter shots. And don't get me started on her lack of effort rebounding. No boxing out, no outhustling the other players, staring at balls on the floor instead of diving for them. She played casually, and her team and LA fans suffered because of it. And if she gives some stupid speech about how she needs to play harder and with more heart, she needs to sit down and STFU, because any player that needs to be motivated to do that in a championship series isn't a player at all.

I'm the same way. I couldn't believe that she was left off the Olympic team. And even after a season where she would only exert effort every other game, I defended her right to be on the All-WNBA team. But I can't in good faith defend her again after only showing up for 2 of the 4 games in this championship series. She has done nothing to earn my support, and even if LA does pull off game five, I will be happy for the rest of the core LA players, but not her. I'm done with her as a fan.

Exactly! Heart can't be coached, you either have it or you don't and it's starting to make me question her 2 titles at UT because if you look at her team in LA compared to what she played with at UT you are seeing a very similar team and she had pieces that if she didn't bring it every night she was bailed out. Now that you mention it;

Bobbit=Tolliver
Hornbuckle=Beard
Carson=Auguste
Anosike=Nnedka
Gray=Spencer
Fuller=Lavender

In terms of the roles they play/played to their teams it is crazy, yet Parker seems to take/get all the credit when they are successful. Lord knows we don't beat Rutgers without the assistance of questionable officiating down the stretch and Nicki Anosike's never give up attitude (ala Nnedka)

The Legend of UT Parker will never die for me, just because of that separated shoulder game and the way she fought through that. The difference I saw between Parker in college and Parker in the WNBA is that collegiate Parker would take plays off during games; pro Parker would take games or sometimes the whole week off.

But right now, she has played herself into the Ann Strother role for Taurasi's last two championships. UConn doesn't win without Strother playing her role, but make no mistake that Diana (or in this case, Nneka) is the stud on the team.

Candace bashing in fashion now? No, she did not have her game on last night,but she was held,hacked and pushed a lot with no calls,while the hero of the night was allowed to walk,charge,throw shoulders into defenders with again no calls. Thus Candace's frustration with officiating. However, more than she were not on the top of their game last night,starting with Nneka and Essence. Coaching tactics were different than game three,in which a more aggressive trapping defense was used early with Nneka on offense at the three point line. Not last night,though. After all their struggles,the Sparks were within two points with about sixteen seconds left when the ten second half court call was missed by three officials. Might not have changed the outcome,but certainly kept the Sparks from the chance to tie. Now as to all of you maya worshippers,what happened to her in game three? Enough of the Candace bashing,she had plenty of help in this losing effort.

Don't even try to rewrite history. The officiating was fairly even with bad calls on both sides. Maya had plenty of calls go against her as well, but she sucked it up and continued to play hard. This game shows why there is no comparison whatsoever between Moore and Parker. Moore comes to play, night in night out. Parker does not.

Parker's passivity had a domino effect on the team. It hurt Nneka because she had no help inside to create space on offense or help with rebounding. And Essence's job is to play defense first and score second. She blanketed Moore, but still got burned by a player who was determined not to be held down. Did you see that effort by Parker? I thought not. The Sparks stayed close in this game in spite of Parker, not because of her.

Parker bashing will stop when she shows she deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Maya based on her effort, heart and leadership on a regular basis, not when it suits her mood.

Candace did not play well last night, ended the night with 14 pts, 3 rebs, 3 fouls, 2 bs, and 2 TO's for the whole game, and she shot horrible. That was her stat-line and people are literally saying TRADE HER?
Can we trade YOU from this board over to another???? Like what the hell.
1) Once a Vol, always a Vol. Get over yourself. Seriously. Parker is family. You don't treat family like that. You (computer junkies behind a screen bashing one of the greatest players to wear orange) just proved to the board that you are not a real VOL fan, your comments are embarrassing to the actual users on this board. And if you are not a real vol fan, why are you here??? I guess their always have to be a Debbie Downer who shows up to Disney Land and wants to talk about feline aids.
2) Go check her stat lines for this season, yes her stats are slightly down this season, but also, Nneka has had the best season EVER. So some of those numbers went to her.
3) Maya Moore in the 3rd game finished with 9pts, 7 boards, 3 fouls, and 0 BS, and 2 To's. Do you see her alma mater bashing her saying trade trade trade??? No because they respect and know what she is capable of, and in a championship series, your not going to go 5 for 5. People have the common sense because of one bad game, doesn't determine the outcome of the success of a person on the court. Luckily though for you, reading all your negative, worthless comments over the last 3 years on this board is enough evidence to let me, and most others (and a lot of past folks who have already blocked you) know where and what you stand for. And it's not about people not being able to 'take the heat'. Understandable when things are not going well, it's okay to point those out. Coaching/players/recruiting, you can't hide the obvious. But when you take situations that are not going well and try to embellish them to turn a situation that is not dire, but make it out to dire ... you're a sad person. Truly, I couldn't imagine walking around life seeing the glass always half empty (followed by cannons and missiles flying at it to destroy it) And for that, I truly, genuine, will pray right now, that one day you will find the cup half full my friend. (pause for prayer)
4) Who the hell cares that this season, she isn't the 'star'. To me, and other basketball junkies, shows that Candace has the high basketball IQ to get the ball to the best basketball player at the moment. Again, Parker was 3rd in the league this year in assist. Girl knows what she is doing.
5) Thank goodness for the ignore button, because it's frustrating to see 'so called fans' treat LVFL like crap. You don't belong here, and since I don't have the power to remove you, I at least have the power to block your ignorant, self-absorbed, side-line wanna be reporting smut!

That's the problem with this fanbase and some of you thinking because people have opinions that don't agree with yours we aren't loyal fans. You had the analyst saying the same things we said last night (or did you watch the game?)

Rebecca Lobo who is one of UCONN's best players praised Parker and her abilities as one of the best women to ever play the game and didn't understand why she was settling when she had the better defender in Brunson on the bench with 3 fouls in the first half and she destroyed Natasha Howard everytime Howard has tried to guard her all season long. It is no reason Parker should not have had a stat line similar to (if not better than) Maya Moore. The difference is Maya Moore (and Sylvia Fowles) refused to let their team lose and Parker and Tolliver (pouted and complained pretty much the entire game) there comes a time when you have to stfu and play ball. There is a reason why she was left off the Olympic team and it seemed as though none of the girls (even her own fellow Lady Vol alum) missed her. There is also a reason the voters (which I don't agree with) didn't vote her All-WNBA. Your personality and the way you do things can rub people the wrong way (seeing as though some of us have done to you and you've blocked/ignored us) to where people no longer want to deal with you and your BS. She has always seem to have a sense of entitlement and it is beginning to show and you know how she can silence the doubters. By shutting us up and going out and giving her all every night without the excuses.

P.S. This is a forum for us to share our views and not all of our views will be the same and if your views don't align with someone else doesn't mean you stoop to childlike tantrums and name calling to get your point across because your views aren't going to make anyone else change their's.

Spoken like someone who clearly didn't watch the game and went straight to the box score. There's a difference between with effort and not having shots fall vs. phoning it in but having a misleading stat line. Anyone with two eyes who watched the game knows which one applies to Parker last night.

I won't bother with the rest of your diatribe. You're clearly one of of those annoying people who resorts to personal attacks on people you don't know. Save your prayers, buddy. My glass is full to the top. Block away. I won't miss your "oh so insightful" comments in the least bit.

I feel your pain, believe me. No matter the reason she is an underachiever given her God given talent. To me her problem has always been her attitude. Always sulking when things didn't go her way. Always taking plays off. She'll go down as a player who dunked against UCONN (it's only 2 points, guys).

I'm just trying to give her room for an excuse other than attitude, petulance, lazy, that's all. The hell of it is I'm not even sure why I did it because I really do think like you do about her.

That said she really should have made at least the 2nd team given the number of top 10 positions she held. Part of the problem though is if all point guards score the most votes (popularity) then you have a roster loaded with point guards
