For Those That Question CDD

It's sad that a Bama fan has more confidence in CDD than most Tennessee fans.
It's not just UT fans, every fanbase is full of fans who are quick to pass judgement on coaches or players but their depth of knowledge and insight isn't much deeper than coaches' W-L records, a quick glance at stats or the number of stars assigned to recruits.

I think people often forget that we have some guys who have worked with a lot of great NFL players in Chaney, Baggett, Hiestand, and Smith. In addition to CDD and Lance Thompson, I trust these guys to know what they are looking for.

I am sorry but I find no solace in playing a team that is down. UT is our biggest rival no matter what the folks over at the Barn think. I do not like excuses even from our fans when we are down about why we dropped a game.

Why not want the biggest rival to also be a top team in the country every year when we play. It makes beating you guys even better. LOL But in all honesty I wish every opponant we play was the cream of the crop especially the 3rd Sat in October.RTR

Pretty classy for a BAMA fan! :eek:k:

Good OP, it's nice to know that someone believes we are on the right path! Heaven knows no one around here does

I've said it before if Dooley had followed Saban to UA he would be talked up as being the best up and coming assistant coach in the country right now. Everyone would know about him and most likely UT wouldn't have had a shot at hiring him if he had stayed with Nick.

I'm glad to see he wanted a challenge and to get out of Nick's shadow and take the job at LT. Heck he won there first bowl game in what 30-40 years? Personally I'm glad we got two Saban disciples on this staff. I'm just worried how much longer we can keep Lance on board. Eventually someone is going to offer him a coordinator job or head coaching job...

But thanks 'Bama fans, it sucks that we are so negative but hi, going through three coaches will do that too ya.

As recruiting coordinator(2000-2002) at LSU he identified talent for 3 years that lead to them winning the NC in 2003. After which he was still involved in recruiting but was working himself up the ladder into higher coaching positions under CNS, which BTW was the asst HC at LSU in 2004. So that shows you that CNS knew that he could coach at that level.

Now while in above position the talent he evaluated included these players. Not all have had successful NFL careers but they were great in college and hence why they were drafted into the NFL.

NFL Draft
Rd # selection
2006
1 30 30 Joseph Addai Colts RB
2 23 55 Andrew Whitworth Bengals T
3 4 68 Claude Wroten Rams DT
4 28 125 Skyler Green Cowboys WR
5 1 134 Kyle Williams Bills DT
6 28 197 Melvin Oliver 49ers DE
7 23 231 Bennie Brazell Bengals WR
2005
1 20 20 Marcus Spears Cowboys DE
2 11 43 Corey Webster Giants DB
4 3 104 Travis Daniels Dolphins DB
2004
1 15 15 Michael Clayton Buccaneers WR
2 18 50 Devery Henderson Saints WR
2 31 63 Marquise Hill Patriots DE
3 20 83 Stephen Peterman Cowboys G
5 10 142 Chad Lavalais Falcons DT
7 23 224 Donnie Jr. Jones Seahawks P
7 24 225 Matt Mauck Broncos QB

Not bad that in 3 years of identifying talent at LSU not only did CDD help them get players to win a NC he got 17 players drafted into the NFL. Also while still involved in the recruiting another 12 got into the NFL and help CLM win the NC in 2007. All the upper classman on the 2007 NC team was recruited by CNS and CDD. Even CNS said that CDD was one of the best recruiters on his staff and tried to get him on his staff at UA.

2008
1 5 5 Glenn Dorsey Chiefs DT
3 5 68 Chevis Jackson Falcons DB
3 6 69 Jacob Hester Chargers RB
3 18 81 Early Doucet Cardinals WR
4 21 120 Craig Steltz Bears DB
7 2 209 Matt Flynn Packers QB
7 25 232 Keith Zinger Falcons TE
2007
1 1 1 JaMarcus Russell Raiders QB
1 6 6 LaRon Landry Redskins DB
1 23 23 Dwayne Bowe Chiefs WR
1 30 30 Craig Davis Chargers WR
7 3 213 Chase Pittman Browns DE

Also all the fans that worry about star ratings take a look at this which I posted in another thread.

R McClain 4 stars and K Jackson 3 stars 1st rd draft picks this year
T Cody 3 stars and J Arenas 3 stars 2nd rd draft picks this year

M Ingram 3 stars Heisman trophy and M Dareus 3 Star protected top 10 pick next year

Just because a player has 5 stars means nothing if they can not produce in college on the field. CDD can identify talent that produces on the field and has a great staff to get it done. Be patient because I think UT is on the right course. But what do I know, I am only a UA fan.:)

I think Dooley is a great evaluator of talent, but some of those players are a product of the o-line (ingram especially). Tennessee is defintely on it's way up though.

By the way, the reason that list at Dooley looks so good is because

Nick Saban>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Les Miles.

I agree. Sad part is, he has more faith in Dooley than a lot of our own posters. I'm not going to mention any names, but you know who you are. You should be ashamed.

There's a very good reason for that.

There's a very good reason for that.

Why?? Because Saban sent Dooley to sabotage our program??

Good grief man, go root for a winner, because it's going to take time to clean up a mess left by two different coaches we had in the past 4 years.

No, because Bammers believe in Nick Saban. If he employed him, they are going to think he'll succeed because he was with Saban (even if not at Bama)

Where the hell did I say not too? Since I have been a fan, I haven't seen an SEC Title. Don't even ****in dare try and tell me how to be a fan. You go ahead and accept a guy like Dooley's resume. That why he was such a hot commodity the last couple of years...oh wait, you're telling me is alma mater didn't even give him the courtesy of at least interviewing him when their job was open? Oh...

Were you a Kiffin fan, because I do not see his resume any better. He was an AHC under Carroll and in charge of recruiting while in the college ranks. So I am confused who did you want.

Kevin Sumlin was a very good choice and he would have come here had Hamilton not been an idiot.

You are right, consider one of the best recruiters in the country by many people, OC of the greatest offense ever, hired to the NFL, improved the most dysfunctional franchise in the league and would have done better had Davis listen to his advice not to draft JaMarcus Russell. Terrible resume. Oh, by the way, since Nick likes Dooley, Carroll said he would do a great job. Of course, UT fans don't think that counts for whatever reasons.

No. If your that great of a coach, you don't get fired like he did. Al Davis is crazy, but he was right about Kiffin.

As far as Kevin Sumlin goes, if you throw it 63 times a game, you can score points and win, even if your defense sucks.

Let's take what Al Davis says. He's the one who ignored Kiffin, took Russell, and set the franchise back five years.

Yeah, look at how much Tom Cable has done to turn it around. And how did Al Doofus's decision to defy Kiffin and draft Jamarcus Russell #1 overall turn out?

I'll give Kiffin that, Russell is the worst draft pick in the history of the draft.

No. There really isn't. Anyone who is sure he'll be great or sure he'll be horrible.... does not "very good reason for" it at this point. For every negative indicator in his past there's at least one positive... unfortunately you need alot of positives to make it in the SEC.

I still think his chances of making it at UT are low. He just inherited a terrible situation. He's doing all he can... no one knows at this point if it is enough.

Bama fans don't piss me off like Gator fans do. Just something about Gator fans that make me wanna go Chase Nelson on them.
