Forgive Student Loans?

Well yes, but I dont feel sorry for those people. That's just a terrible decision.

But why should it be cheaper to not work and be educated than to just not work? 30k a year isn't bad.

The problem is the notion that a school should have to house and feed your child. Community college is very affordable and free in Tennessee to most people.

I have a feeling how this is gonna play out. I think eventually the vast majority, or all student loan debt is gonna be forgiven under this brain dead administration. They don’t care about inflation or how things actually work. I believe that the D’s know without a huge political golden goose they are doomed. Student loans are pretty much their white whale. The closer to 2024 we get, the more forgiving student loans will pick up steam. Then at some point in late 2023 or early 2024, student loans will be wiped and Biden secures another 4 years.

I’ll have to disagree. Student loan forgiveness has been pitched as a campaign issue for over a decade. No way there’s a resolution before 2024. Much more likely those with large student debt will continue to vote for the possibility of forgiveness rather than the appreciation for that forgiveness.

It is going to take a whole lot more than forgiving student loans to help secure another 4 years for the dems in the White House. There are essentially zero positives to point to for this administration at this time. Additionally, loan forgiveness seems like a daunting challenge.

We have multiple problems. The first being our school systems all seem to feel it’s more important to teach their students about pleasuring themselves ( I suspect most of VN didn’t have a class but manage just fine) rather than finance and economics (budgeting, ROI, etc) so that the students could recognize a specific college or a specific degree would not be a wise decision.
The second is the predatory interest rates. All my children have friends that have paid off cars that cost as much as their SL .
I’m not for forgiveness but I am for sub prime renegotiation as long as the payments are being made on time

With his approval ratings, he will do it later this summer into early October. He needs it close to election time so it’s fresh on the minds of the people with the way things are looking for the election, the democrats will need everything they have.

You are making sense. But we are talking about 18 year olds. Many of them do not have the sharpest knives giving them advice about the first major decision they will make in life. So they rely on the advice of their parents, their school advisors and the media/govt to encourage them to take on this ridiculous debt.

Given your opinion of 18 year olds lacking critical thinking skills at large and being susceptible coercion from adults and the government, do you think the voting age should be raised?

Well of course they don't care about inflation, but this student debt issue isn't going to be the worst thing to ever happen or the worst catalyst for inflation. The COVID money, defense spending over the last 2 decades, FED money printing and Boomers sucking off the system have for more impact. Yet, actually doing something to relieve student debt for a bunch of people at $1.5 trillion is just too much for some people because on this one issue, they feel screwed. They feel screwed because they say "I played by the rules. I paid my debts. These people should pay theirs." And I get that. I understand exactly where these people are coming from. However, This one example of people skating by on poor decisions isn't even the worst example out here. I get mad at the fact that we have Section 8 recipients driving better cars than I do. A lot of these welfare entitlements allow these people to fill up their shopping carts while I pay out of my own pocket. Or on the other end, defense contractors creating excuses to maintain a war footing all across the globe just so they can sell more weapons. Or the FED printing up more money and allowing the Congress and POTUS to get off the hook from bad spending decisions.

$1.5 trillion on an existing $30+ trillion debt... and many of you guys get emotionally bent out of shape over that (I would say justifiably pizzed), yet don't carry that same energy on most of these other more significant handouts, bailouts and abuses.

Yes. I'm on record saying that the 26th Amendment should be repealed and the enlistment age should be raised to 21.

So if any of these debts were taken out at 21 vs 18 then they have now reached an age where they should be paid back at the terms they were agreed to?

I would have no issue with that if that to an extent. I still think that even in those situations, there is room for haircuts on the debt because it is clear that the loans given in many of these instances should have never been issued in the first place. Pick some arbitrary number between $50-100k and tell them they are responsible for paying no more than that amount.

I agree. I do think society as a whole though is moving in a more sensible direction and todays youth aren’t being pushed as hard with the “go to college or be a loser” rhetoric.

But you’re right. They’re too young to make those decisions. That’s why getting government out of the loan process is the best move for all parties. Make the money less accessible

Nope. Sorry. Work harder, buy an old flip phone and a beater car, get some roommates to share expenses and pay your ****ing debts. Like Dave Ramsey says, you don't need to be inside a restaurant unless you are working there. The ONLY room for ANY leniency here is that if any loan is forgiven, it is counted as income and they pay taxes on it. At least we will get some of that stolen money back.... sort of.

Let them bankrupt those loans. That will fix everything. guaranteed.
