Someone check my math, but for me this comes out to an average of over 35k per person.

So the write off would theoretically reduce amounts owed by 1/3. But it comes back in 5 years? woof.

$1.6 trillion is $4500 per capita (350 million)... of course there are a lot less tax returns.... 142 million in 2018. So if about 150 millon returns in 2022 it costs $10,500 per return.

Capitalism isn't a philosophy or something people choose to do, it is the natural state of the economy. It isn't great but it is the DEFAULT. All systems work under it, even the ones with government intervening to be a player. At some point there is value to a good, supply and demand, etc. You are NOT going to escape Capitalism because it is reality.

Please go read Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations before spouting political nonsense. Issue with people today is that they are free to give opinions without reading or understanding the topic they are commenting on.

What I find funny that the 'black market" for any illegal product is probably the most honest form of capitalism. Capitalism is the best to way run an economy.

I can't help but hate this move. There's way too many people, unfortunately I'm friends with some, that go rack up student debt with dumb decisions and my money should not be their escape route. Perfect example of someone I know:

Goes to a small liberal arts college that's $40k a year, gets an English degree but doesn't want to teach so they are stuck working the front desk at a medical office with a ton of debt. Don't feel bad for them at all and they should burden the consequences.

There's this weird stigma with the majority of kids that going to a free community college for two years is a bad / embarrassing move. Also, we put way too much emphasis on college acting like it's required to make a really good living. It's absolutely needed for a lot of jobs but it's also a complete waste for a lot too.

If you could weed out the dumbasses I wouldn't be so against it.

The whole issue is that now people that made sacrifices or opted into things like trades are going to be shouldering the burden of a bunch of spoiled brats that are either too inept, too lazy, or too stupid to use the degree they chose to indebt themselves over. There's nothing positive about this at all.
