Former Georgia DC Willie Martinez

He must have done something right to get the uga dc. Just because he didnt succeed as a coordinator doesn't mean he's not a good assistant.

I'm sure he did, but since his time as DC at UGA, he hasn't been very impressive.

I think we'll all agree that our DBs were pretty sad last year, but they did manage 12 picks. Auburn's DBs, 2. How can a team play 12 games and give up 2700 yards of passing only come away with two picks?

Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

This is the guy that made crompton look like an all American. No to jancek as well, he was a great magician at Georgia. Only coach in America that could make 5 star lbs disappear.

For his talent evaluation skills, he chose/wanted chase vasser over Jarvis jones. HE is the reason jones first went to USC. Let that sink in for a second....

It's called being mark richt's college roommate. That is why he took so long to fire him.

I thought Hubbs said John Jancek was named DC. Did I hear incorrectly?

i figure with this greatest staff in the country it sounds right. i'n my opinion it looks bad he is gonna have to have some great players because these are not knockout hires.

He's a pretty good db coach. Like Jancek, Willie Martinez will be a position coach.

We can find a better DB coach than Willie. His DBs at Auburn came away with 2 picks last year. Hell even our lost in the woods DBs had 12.

I don't think he was fired from OU. He quit to join BVG at Auburn. He is a very good DB coach.

Because??? Please add your insight as to why this would be such a great hire if true since you have already added so much intellect to this conversation.

What I posted is truth. We have seen what he can (or cannot) do. Ask Auburn fans if he can coach or Oklahoma fans. Good guy tho unlike you.

eighth nationally in sacks (42) and 14 nationally in total
defense.

• His 2006 defense ranked eighth nationally in total

down efficiency.

• Under Martinez, the 2005 Georgia defense was eighth in the country in scoring defense (16.4 ppg) and seventh in pass defense.

• On a staff that led the 2003 SEC Eastern Division
champion Georgia defense that finished second nationally
in scoring defense (14.5 ppg), fourth in total defense
(276.86 ypg), sixth in passing defense (174.50 ypg, first
in the SEC), 14th nationally in turnover margin (+.79) and fourth in number of scoreless quarters (25) among the AP's final top-10 teams.

• The 2002 Georgia defense finished first in the SEC and
fourth nationally in scoring defense (15.1 ppg), first in the
SEC in red zone defense (58.8%), second in the SEC in
rushing defense (114.0 ypg) and allowed only 31 second
half points in the final seven games of the season.

• Coached a Central Michigan defense in 2000 that led the nation in pass defense (149.7 ypg).

I thought this guy was drawing heat from the NCAA along with Trooper Taylor? That may be incorrect.

Along with Jancek you get two guys who have history in the south with recruiting and know GA and FL high schools fairly well. Both of these guys have backgrounds in other regions as well. So the history and geography these two bring is phenomenal. Boykin and Jones are two giants UGA can thank these two for. I mean if they are great at positions and recruiting and can get top talent in a place that has been lacking, by all means....proceed. Bring that talent in and then get those who can then coach them up. I'm tired of having one or two good guys sprinkled here and there having to carry the weight of the team. Let's become a school that sends several first rounders to the NFL again.
