If Bob Stoops wants you on his staff then you have to be a solid position coach. I'll take Stoops approval and the fact that Martinez has sent like 14 DB's to the NFL in like 10 years under his tutelage.

Sal Sunseri wasn't meant to be a DC nor was Willie Martinez. Each tried it and failed. CWM obviously knows his role and bread and butter.....solid well known SEC recruiter...good coach to have imo.

Will you guys please read the posts. It says he would be bringing him as DB coach, now Sal sucked at DC but was a damn good LB coach at Bama and having a former DC solely as a DB coach is a pretty solid hire to me especially since he knows the area and has SEC experience. It's defiently an upgrade over our current secondary coaches.

Impressive first year with Oklahoma as safety Quinton Carter was a consensus All-American and first-year starter Jamell Fleming, a corner, topped the Big 12 and ranked No. 2 nationally in passes defended. Safety Tony Jefferson was named the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year. As a team, OU ranked No. 8 nationally in pass efficiency defense.

• Over the past 10 years, 14 of Martinez's defensive backs were selected in the NFL Draft.

• Spent nine years at Georgia where he was part of a staff that led UGA to 90 victories, two SEC championships, three SEC Eastern Division titles, seven bowl victories and six top-10 finishes in the final national polls including No. 2 in 2007 and No. 3 in 2002.

• The 2007 Georgia defense finished first in the SEC and
eighth nationally in sacks (42) and 14 nationally in total
defense.

• His 2006 defense ranked eighth nationally in total
defense, fifth in pass defense and first in the SEC in third
down efficiency.

• Under Martinez, the 2005 Georgia defense was eighth in the country in scoring defense (16.4 ppg) and seventh in pass defense.

• On a staff that led the 2003 SEC Eastern Division
champion Georgia defense that finished second nationally
in scoring defense (14.5 ppg), fourth in total defense
(276.86 ypg), sixth in passing defense (174.50 ypg, first
in the SEC), 14th nationally in turnover margin (+.79) and fourth in number of scoreless quarters (25) among the AP's final top-10 teams.

• The 2002 Georgia defense finished first in the SEC and
fourth nationally in scoring defense (15.1 ppg), first in the
SEC in red zone defense (58.8%), second in the SEC in
rushing defense (114.0 ypg) and allowed only 31 second
half points in the final seven games of the season.

• Coached a Central Michigan defense in 2000 that led the nation in pass defense (149.7 ypg).

• Tutored Brian Leigeb, who led the MAC in tackles and
was third nationally with 13.36 per game in 2000.

• Was part of a Central Michigan staff that won the 1994
MAC Championship before playing in the Las Vegas Bowl.

• Was a graduate assistant on a Miami staff that coached
in the 1986 Sugar and 1987 Fiesta Bowls.

Accomplishments as a Player
• Played on the 1983 National Championship team at
Miami.

• Defensive back on the 1984 Orange and 1985 Fiesta
Bowl teams.

Only this board would whine about this hire.

Sorry guys, he stunk up Georgia......that's why they fired him.

As a DC yes agreed, as a DB coach he's be outstanding. He's a very good recruiter who knows the SEC in general and the state of Georgia in particular.

Don't be a moron.

Martinez was a GREAT recruiter at UGA.....keep the headset off of him, and I'll be happy about adding him to the assistant coaching staff.

Should CBJ hire Willie Martinez? YES!!
CWM would be a great addition as position (DB) coach. As DC, not so much, but we witnessed that in Sal (terrific position (LB) coach) didn't we?
Put that (GA experience) and this past yr at Auburn aside, look at his overall body of work...very impressive.
Love his style of play. His players are well prepared, fundamentally sound, play to their assignment, and are aggressive yet disciplined.

SN: He and CDH would tear up recruiting...

So we hire both WM and TT, both are DB coaches although TT coached LB's in 2012. Hmm? Hope CBJ doesn't intend to have TT coaching LB's here. Two reasons why I do not like this idea --- one, TT is a better DB coach and two, that would indicate that CBJ plans to have Jancek be DC, not LB coach, and that concerns me.
