I love Fulmer and think he is 2nd in line to Neyland as far as football goes, but the talent evaluations toward the end of his tenure were just brutal.
For the 2009 class that he had committed before he was let go, here is who he was trying use as evidence that he was getting the program turned around:
Taj Boyd - backup QB at Clemson
Jeron Stokes - leaving Michigan
Jarvis Giles - left USC
David Oku - left UT
Jerod Askew - left and no longer plays football
Kevin Revis - left UT
Toney Williams - never played much, career ending injury
Rae Sykes - backup DT not seeing much time at all
Just hard to understand that after the 2007 debacle of a class it looks like 2009 would have been much of the same. Wonder what the falloff in recruiting was from the 90's until 2009.

Everyone here loves what Phil did and respects him for his 90s run but that statement is completely false. Phil was great because of his supporting cast. I honestly see Phil more like a Mark Richt coach. We should of have won more games with the talent we had those years. I dont even want to think what our record would of been last year if we had Phil as our coach
Much better.:salute:
Je'Ron Stokes Leaves Michigan. Espn says this guy was up for the Vols till the firing of Fulmer. Any body think this is a guy we might go back after? Just looking for the two cents from the wise.

Phil hired his supporting cast. That is part of the job.
I dont mean to argue the point. I like Dooley. I think he is a good coach, and part of being a good coach is hiring the right staff. Charlie Baggett is probably the best hire that he made. Having Charlie's College and Pro experience on the staff is huge, as well as his experience as a recruiter. Awesome hire by Dooley.
I just think that Phil would have recovered. Just my own feeling.
