Four things I'm waiting to see, Week 3.

4 things

1. Michael Williams more playing time at Corner
2. TKjr increased playing time
3. Helm getting more involved
4. Maggitt getting more QB hurries and sacks

I have to chuckle at people who think we are going to totally change our offense to an I formation power run team. That is not the Butch Jones offense - there are plenty of teams who run similar offenses to ours that absolutely gash teams on the ground - and none of them does it out of an I-formation with a fullback.

Team 118 has yet to establish an identity, the OU game is a great opportunity to do just that. It's up to the Vols to define themselves .

They really have established an identity we as fans just don't necessarily like it always or at least the results. On offense they are consistently doing similar things just not always successful. On defense we play physical with mixed fronts.

Someone posted on here yesterday that our O-line averaged 299 lbs. but Okla homo's D - line was around 325 lbs. on the average.

Good luck on pushing those D-linemen around. Maybe we can use sweeps, etc. and not run much in the middle.

Agree. We need some screens and sweeps to get Hurd/Pig in open space. I don't think their D line will be able to get back into those plays given their size.

If we simply run right at them, we'll stall. Spread those piggies out.

I don't necessarily believe the running game will be much improved this week, but if it is, I can think of two things that could cause it. One could be just finding our best five O-linemen and having each in the best position, which I don't think we have done yet. A second reason it could be better is play calling. We really haven't shown many running plays yet, and I'm sure there will be some wrinkles on what Oklahoma has on film. Obviously, any gains could be offset by the caliber of Oklahoma's front 7, so even then, it may not look much improved.
This....I think we basically ran the same running play over and over. I gotta believe that CBJ kept it very vanilla and will open it up Saturday.

We just have to back the defense down if we want anything on offense and limit the big plays and we will have a ball game people.

We don't need 4 things, just one:

A miracle.

They have lost 5 games at home in 16 years. This Vol team, as much as I want them to, does not have the juice given every break we could ever hope to have. I want them to win so bad but even though I hate the term, a moral victory is a best case scenario.

1. Off tackle runs--haven't seen many of those yet.
2. More sacks.
3. Keep it up with the passing game.
4. Attack, Attack, Attack.

Like this one. Coach Majors "Attack, Attack, Attack, always attack down field.

First 2 weeks went fairly well. Some improvement from week one to week 2 in the running game. The defense seemed to have a mental let down in both the games that let the other team score quickly. I believe ASU scored in 4 plays after the Vols scored in the 3rd qt.

1. Team - How will they handle their 1st road game. Composure and intensity. Still playing hard at end of game.

2. Offense - Can the line protect Worley? Running game needs to step it up a notch.

3. Defense - Overall I believe they will give a good accounting of themselves. If the offense stalls we will see a lot of players in and out to keep them fresh as possible through the entire game.

4. Special Teams - Really needs to play lights out. Medley needs to make all makeable FG's. Don't give up field position or easy scores.

Most of all "NO INJURIES". SEC schedule looming they need everyone.

I know these all simple every day things a team needs to do but they need a complete game and a little luck to win. VOLS 22 to 19.

Please add your thoughts.

Minimize big plays from OU offense, UT offense to control the ball and for everyone to play out their assignments each play.

Hate to say it, but Lane needs to be in a little more.... Yes he is a patient runner who does not blow through the hole, but he is able to twist, turn, shimmy, lunge for about 5-6 by squeezing through small holes during his time in the backfield. I believe we are going to only see small holes open up and he has the vision that Hurd simply does not have yet....

Why will it?

1. two games experience
2. backs against the wall
3. "us" against all odds mentality
4. realization of what happens if they don't
5. pride
6. nothing to lose
7. Okla. will line up and come at them...no new looks here.
8. Butch Jones
.....probably some more I'm not think about....

This team better come in flying high with nothing to lose and let it be known that all the pressure is on OK... with that being said, we better NOT see this vanilla-type offense we have been running the last two weeks or not only will they eat us alive, but the OC should be re-evaluated.... we simply have too much talent and two games under our belt on offense not to open things up.

I just want to see how this team responds after going behind on the road to a top team. I'd love to score early and often and force the sooners to play catch-up, but I believe they will score first and we'll really see what these guys are made of.

I never chuckle. I hate doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. We could not create holes with 4 NFL linemen last year but we expect to create holes with freshmen this year. But then, Oregon can do it so I guess we can.

I won't be surprised at all if we keep it pretty vanilla against the sooners.

Everyone considers this a loss against the 3rd ranked team in the country.

buTch may not want film available on what we plan to use against UGa, Fla, SC and our other SEC rivals.

His primary goal may be to have a much better SEC East standing at years end to help recruiting and to show fans that he's building a SEC contender.

Our fans would probably rather beat our SEC rivals, end the run Fla has against us, beat USCe 2 years in a row and get back to Winning SEC games than a closer game against OK.

That will help recruiting alot more.

If you think about it that strategy is a good one for the long term of Vols football.

I'd be happy to lose to OK for Wins against USCe, UGa and Fla and get back in the bowl picture which also allows us lots more practice time this year to help us get better faster.

I expect the playbook to really open up when we get into our SEC games.

I'm by no means suggesting abandoning the run but they need to come out throwing short throwing deep throw throw throw. They cant just run it right at them they've gotta open it up by a successful passing game.
On defense I agree with ESPN that says blitz the heck out of them. Hit him and hit him hard. Their best chance is to make him average which he was at times last year.

I would trade that too obviously but if you think Butch is going to not put his all in this game and sacrifice it since the experts say its a definite loss just so UGA doesnt hqve much to go off of... you're insane.

The good news: Butch ran this very same offense against OU four years ago at Cincy, and almost beat OU, because the holes his line opened were so huge.

The bad news: not a single current UT lineman could have started on that Cincy OL, and three of UTs current starters wouldn't have been in that Bearcat two-deep.

This Butch system will work if y'all just give it time. But expecting it to work tomorrow before it's gelled and ready is just masochistic.

Bull****. Poppycock. You play to win. Do you think for an instance that Butch is telling his boys to save it for conference play? A win against this OU team is as good of a win against anybody in the SEC East, hell, even the West. A win in Norman at this time would be a huge statement and a huge confidence booster. Where in any of the General Maxims does it say to play it vanilla safe? You play to win. You put it all on the field the day you were given. You play to win.

i just can't believe CBJ will hold anything back, this can be a major win for the Vols against the 3/4 ranked team in the nation

hopefully a running game will show up

the O line will have to give Worley time to throw

both lines will have to play lights out

AJ will have to have a fantastic game on defense, which we all know he will give 100% effort

and don't let the game get out of hand early, keep it close, confidence will build for the Vols,if they can

The key on defense is to brutalize Trevor Knight. AJ - JRM - Weatherd - Maggit - and Orange Williams III need to be inside that kids helmet from the get go. Knock him off his game and it will be a good battle.

We need to hit on some big plays. Connect on a few deep balls, capitalize on turnovers.

Worley will have the opportunity to connect on some deep balls because Mike Stoop's defense is very aggressive leaving man coverage frequently. He believes in trade offs with creating sacks and possibly giving up a couple of deep throws. He will want to rattle your QB and if he has to blitz to do it he will take that risk. I like this strategy because you can have all world talent in your secondary but if the QB has all day to throw he will find an open receiver. Thus, I would rather have an excellent D Line and a decent or good secondary than the other way around. Bama has done this well for the last few years with great success.
